Looks like there could be some moisture around in Canterbury. Hopefully it comes to nothing.

Christmas day looking warm in the north and west of NZ, cool with low cloud and drizzle in the south and east. Isolated thunderstorms in the ranges.

Currently GFS brings a cold upper trough over NZ around Xmas which will set off showers paricularly over the North Island where the moisture is better, inland areas of both Islands could see a day or two of afternoon thunderstorms next week, but still early days for Xmas day forecast.

Precipitation guidance from the UKmet for Christmas day afternoon. GFS in agreement but EU looks different with a drier South island.

Looks like a good crop of convective precipitation possible over the mid South Island and upper North Island.

Away from central high ground those afternoon/evening heat showers will be isolated and nothing spoil Xmas Day.

looks like there could be some thunderstorms or downpours inland areas south of auckland on christmas day. auckland should have a mainly fine day. chance of a shower south auckland.

Yes, GFS pointing to a mainly fine Xmas day for Auckland, there is a convergence line just to the east, SE parts of Auckland such as Hunua might catch an afternoon shower.
Cambridge to Tokoroa might be best placed for the chance of an afternoon/evening thunderstorm Xmas day

More afteroon showers on Boxing Day
