I saw some clips of that. Looks like a landspout? either way got very close to some people.

Re: USA Severe Weather 2019
Reed Timmer said it was associated with a supercall (you can see the CB cloud right above and behind it)
Inland valley CA basicly normally does not get any significant weather
just some winter rain...rest of the year its normally just hot and sunny!

Re: USA Severe Weather 2019
There is a cool season tornado climatology in parts of California similar to what we get in NZ. Tornadoes are not frequent but certainly occur from time to time. There is the coastal type which we are familiar with in NZ and an inland type triggered by wind shear in the valleys, such as Sacramento valley.

So Sean Casey has sold the TIV2 (Tornado Intercept Vehicle)
https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/c ... 45031.html
Purchaser is a well known US chaser Ryan Shepard who used to drive it for Sean. Hopefully it will be put to good use and we will see footage from it again in the future.

Pretty significant too...
https://www.nbcdfw.com/weather/stories/ ... 24671.htmlA radar-confirmed twister hit the ground at about 9 p.m. near Love Field Airport and moved northeast through the city. There were no reports of fatalities or serious injuries, according to a release from the city of Dallas, but Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said three people were hospitalized for evaluation of injuries that were not life threatening.
A damage estimate for Sunday night's storms has not been released, but the storms cut power to more than 140,000 customers, knocked down trees, overturned cars and ripped roofs from homes.
Lots of the stuff that was posted was geolocked, these links were working from NZ when I watched them earlier.

Seems very curious, did it ignite some volatile compound from the nearby gas station?

Re: USA Severe Weather 2019
Looks like that Jarrell tornado started more like a landspout ( no sign of the RFD cut) and then ramped up to a supercell tornado. CAPE levels were in excess of 6000 j/kg.

must have been one of those video cameras with a real good zoom on it (this was back in the 90's this footage and has only been recently digitised?)
