Now it's sunny and really nice out there, short lived but I wonder if this period peps things up a little over Chch when the rain arrives. I see dark clouds approaching over Gebbies Pass.

Just got back from Temuka where it was absolutely pouring down, also steady rain falling here in Geraldine.
Nice to see it raining in the Auckland area.

No thunder here.
Conditions weren't right for any thunderstorm development, but a good rainfall event for here.
More details at 10pm.

A rather cloudy and wet day, especially from 12:30pm, when it came onto rain..
Quite a few heavy falls around the district with a total of 32.4mm recorded here to 10pm, tonight.
Today's maximum was just 16C which dropped to 12C for most of the afternoon when the rain was falling.
Easterly winds turning more southerly during the afternoon.

Looks to be the chance of a high based thunderstorm/hail over the Coromandal/western BOP/SE Waikato later this afternoon.
500mb is -20C and while moisture looks weak in the models, I wouldn't be surprised if some moisture does make it into the area this afternoon.

Fresh snow visible on the tops this morning;
inside of window-panes slightly misted up first thing;
was 6.9°C at 6:30am, now 12.9°C and sunny, light air.

General February Weather

Currently have an elevated thunder shower delivering rain. Cold air coming from it.

Got 0.6mm from that. Better than nothing I suppose.

Can see that t/cu cb to distant SE. A bit of lightning has been detected on tracker.

Great storm in SE Hamilton city right now. Lightning/thunder every 2-3 minutes.

There have been a few electrically active cells there today. Even a weak storm near Auckland over Hunua.
On the airport obs Hamilton, Tauranga and Ardmore have reported thunder.

Tauranga is ongoing. Not so much rain so far, but it looks like it is developing South and getting ready to run us over ATM. Embedded CC's, haven't seen a single CG yet.
