We are lucky they generally follow a similar trend.
The falling dollar is bad news for importers, good news for exporters if you can sell your product at the moment.

Don't give up yet. There is still plenty of time for the pandemic to bite in NZ and everywhere else for that matter.
Take a look at this link https://medium.com/@tomaspueyo/coronavi ... d3d9cd99ca It's a few days old now, but you'll still get the gist.
If it is well established there is little point in restricting your borders. If you have already had it & recovered, I at least think I'd be prepared to roll the dice and still do a chasecation.
Meanwhile... https://www.ctvnews.ca/mobile/health/co ... 1.4851641?
We have little option (re our ChaseCations) but to sit it out & wait at this point. I'm not ready to call it off just yet.

Yes, saw that a few minutes ago. Thanks for keeping an eye on it. Fortunately I have a reasonable stash of US$.

I haven't cancelled my trip yet but have to be realistic, there is going to be no quick fix to this problem. Whether borders will be open and whether airlines are honouring flights will be an increasing problem for the traveller in the coming months I'm picking. So just have to wait and see how it looks in May.

I didn't get a choice. Air NZ have cancelled the Auckland to Chicago flights at least. Pointed out to me by a third party, but no word from Air NZ so far. Dayton Hamvention which I try to visit as part of my US Chasecations has also been cancelled.

I think the days of cheap flights are over for a long time now. The airlines will not be rushing back to the economic trap of loading up with capacity. Perhaps some airlines may not survive without a government bail out.

Only took me ten months to finish. Hopefully this makes a nice break from pandemic related content. Really gonna miss chasing this year!

Tornado set up over Iowa/Missouri/Illinois tomorrow.
18Z dewpoint chart shows the general synoptic pattern with a well defined east west warm front and cold front north south. Supercells should develop on both fronts.

Yes first storm of the year I watched on livestream and followed on radar. Ive never had the chance to chase this close to the Mexico border before.NZstorm wrote: Sun 12/04/2020 18:59 Big hail in Del Reo, Texas today.

Will be an odd year following the chase season. Less people out, although it seems most chasers currently are not following guidance on non essential travel atm and no International chasers in the states. If chasing is an option next year (I kinda doubt it) Im sure all the overseas chasers who can will be there!

Reed was out chasing the big hail again the next day!
As soon as there is a vaccine international travel will start up again. But expect to pay above $2,000 for air fares next year, the $1,000 cheapies are probably gone forever.
SPC had a tornado watch and 10% hatched over southern Texas yesterday but the storms developed north of the watch area!

Some drone footage from today. Interesting looking at the tree damage in the woods.

Re: USA Weather & travel to the US on weather related matters 2020
Yes, wouldn't be surprised if it made EF4. From what I can tell, no serious injuries or fatalities from it fortunately. Gotta feel for those families that lost their homes. The use of Drones these days will show us more and more of this kind of footage. It will hopefully also bring patches of serious damage requiring first responders to their attention sooner which may save lives.
There is more from that team:

EF4 rated tornadoes recorded in both Mississippi and Alabama in the recent outbreak.
The last place you want to be in a strong tornado is a car.

Re: USA Weather & travel to the US on weather related matters 2020
Agreed, we were watching the Moore EF5 May 20 2013 and were struggling to work out what we were seeing. It was vehicles that had been picked up, lower down the heavy engine & transmission was thrown out after being torn out in the violent rotation. The body being impacted by debri was then compressed into a dense ball and thrown higher up when it lost enough external surface to stay in the vortex. It wasn't until months later after the severity of the PTSD lessened that I worked out what it was. If you were picked up by one of those monsters you'd have little chance of survival.
