yes, looks like a dryish May could be in the pipeline. But the polar jet stream can kick back in at short notice at this time of year.Awhituobs wrote: Sat 24/04/2021 07:25 we got a nice 15mm at home

Re: General April Weather
Todays set up is more open ridged so a chance for Onshore localised winds to feed in, some good upper dynamics and forcing.
So 10-15mm hail, I'm guessing MS is sitting on the fence with the size until there is radar indication.
Some CU going up over the port hills currently, and good heating too wind is light ESE.

Warm out there on the hills from early on so it’s looking good presently, IR satellite seems to indicate convergence setting up over coastal Otago now.

Re: General April Weather
Today always looked to be the exciting day out of the week... perhaps even out of the next few days.
Always looked like a reasonable set up for some heavy showers possible thunderstorms for eastern areas of south island today.
If does eventuate it probably will be our last set up going into winter.
Had it been in mid summer the risk would of been high.

Some beefy looking clouds going up westward from here but not putting much chance for anything to happen from them.

Re: General April Weather
It's really cool watching heavy showers pass by at around 1100 asl. This one is near Eltham in Taranaki

Re: General April Weather
MS have issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Dunedin, North Otago and the Canterbury Plains - heavy rain and large hail are the main risks. Currently a severe warned storm near Dunedin.

Storm coming off the foothills near Porters, will be interesting to see what happens as that one nears Chch. Maybe an hour or so before we see action.

Yip, the unmistakable sound of thunder to the west. Edit: I saw some lightning.

Just went for a wander along to Whitewash Head and now Sumner beach, 90% sure I just saw a flash
Very impressive structure with an anvil visible as I came back down the hill.

Re: General April Weather
Yes. i have noticed the sferics have been increasing on the radio over the last 10 minutes, first for the day.
The cloud over TC has been slow to develop this afternoon but now it looks likely as it is becoming active as it moves out to the east., along with the storm that is moving along the Waimakariri River to the NW of Chch.
