a break in the Westerlies

Not too bad in the end Some small cumulus popped up just inland NW at about 4pm but fizzled out due to the NE wind. However I noticed a CB to my NE before very farr in the distance on the Horizon perhaps Kaikoura way the pic i took is zoomed in but ohh well atleast got something out of today

talking about Thunderstorms what got me interested in weather etc 4 minutes of fame for me on air

Yea can see that cb Jason, looks like it just procucing abit of rain as no strikes picked up from it.

i was wondering what pileus means because i saw alot of them 2day during the early part of the convection however a convergence line did form in the east and eastern areas had some heavy rain this afternoon 2morow is another day

Short thunderstorm again in the Bay late this arvo. Thought it was not going to happen but finally did quite late. Might have had to break thru a cap?

Mostly fine today with ominus signs of heavy showers... but a westerly sea breeze dealt to that and became mostly clear by evening. Nice on 20c

Doesn't look like we'll get much rain from this upcoming depression at this stage...
Heavenly weather after that, not much of a break in westerlies

Cold upper air over the North Island today but not much moisture.

Today looks very likely for thunder in the Bay. Cu's are starting to bubble and once heating starts and the sea breeze kicks in that may be the source for moisture. If I were an orchadist today I would be concerned.
The Met service have us at high risk.

any of you hawkes bay people got web cams to get some piccys up later

some good builds up here on the coast hills already too...so things might just fire up around here too
but checking the webcam,for us here they are drifting up from the SSW...so thats the general flow...so that means too much of a sea breeze will develop for us, so its inland eastern areas again on the cards

neat clouds above me at the moment...with a NE running into a SSWer
the remains of the wek cold front are just off the coast here, rearing its head as a line of CB's, can now see them above the altocumulus
so as that front gets closer, things could get interesting for the auckland area!

update, latest rain radar shows heavy rain with those CB's out west
but its only slolwy moving ENE, so not sure what it will be still like when it finally gets here!

hailing here now!
did not last long...but big drops of rain too, i.e strong updrafts and must very cold above us...
as soon as the shower moved out over the manuaku harbour, it fizzled very fast!

Nice Towering Cu about also some Cb have developed.
Just took this photo of shower development over the Waitak's.

Showers so far have been short lived.

Nice going Jason, listened to the radio and heard you talking, he even said my name again! Horay! lol. I didn't sense any nerves and you did it well I thought.

Yes Steven W, lack of moisture didn't help here yesterday, a Cb did pop up late in the day I'm guessing somewhere between Hamner and Kaikora? but wasn't lightning active unfortunately. Shows there was some potential there however.

I wouldn't be surprised if something popped up again late today, temps are nice (nearly 19) and moisture is a bit higher to but we'll see.

Anvils now all round to the south. Large cb behind me with its anvil over the house. To big to photo. A couple of shots from early on.

ops, i was going to listen to that,but i dont have a stereo/radio thats anygood...

cb line out the W now fizzling as it gets closer
that waitakere shower comes and goes a bit by the look...
not sure,dont think there will be much action around here today, but the far north looks to be getting big isolated cb's going by the rain radar

edit, and it looks action in the hawkes bay going by the photos ...great looking hawkes bay countryside there

Kaikora Cb yesterday looked a good one, first of the season.

Strong Cu towers in our East/SE, might be something Thundery out there late afternoon.

Westerlies starting to clear T/Cu and weak Cb's from Central Waikato..
But some great large Cb's to the SE over Rotorua/Whakatane way at the moment

Yes Brian, looks like a convergence line running out of the East across the City and into the NW, drifting north.

Clouds are bigger in the East with heavy showers-photo.

The cb's off the coast of Hawkes Bay look active on the satellite.
Any hail reports from Hawkes Bay?

Was just on local radio in Chch, would liked to have listened to it.

Christchurch and Wellington do their own programe for NewstalkZB. The rest of the country is nationwide out of Auckland.

TV1 weather showed a photo of a very elongated funnel cloud observed at Cambridge (Waikato) yesterday.
