Pretty sure I read somewhere that this is the last year Charles is running Cloud 9 Tours, retiring after this year.

Soon American Airlines will offer DFW (Dallas Fort Worth) to AKL (Auckland) direct flights. They won't be offering a LAX-AKL service, this will replace it. Hopefully it won't be seasonal and could be a great option for future chasecations to the US.

That’s great. At this point they have been seasonal. But given the drop of lax you’d hope it’s all year round.tgsnoopy wrote:Soon American Airlines will offer DFW (Dallas Fort Worth) to AKL (Auckland) direct flights. The significant heatwave on the west side of the US continues - Sacremento Intl Airport recorded a new all time record for the city with 116°F on both 5th and 6th September. This beats the old record of 114°F which was set way back on 17th July 1925.

Multiple towns in Texas and SE Oklahoma have taken direct hits from strong to violent tornadoes over the last few hours. Idabel, OK took a direct hit from a wedge tornado that was emergency warned. Crazy day and lots still happening now.

Re: US Weather 2022
The forecast versus severe weather with warnings and reported tornadoes from Friday (in the US, Sat morn here) is quite remarkable:

Re: US Weather 2022
The Upper New York State city of Buffalo is currently receiving massive amounts of snow from a lake effect event - forecasts are for 4-6ft of level snow for the storm that began on Thursday evening and will last into Saturday. The snow bands are quite narrow, but the snow can accumulate at 3" to 5" per hour. Must be quite an experience.

Re: US Weather 2022
Tomorrow is set up to be a significant tornado outbreak in Mississippi and surrounding states. A Day 2 moderate risk has already been issued with a high risk to likely be issued tomorrow.

Re: US Weather 2022
A 30% risk issued this far out always spells trouble. Quite rare to see that in an extended outlook - perhaps only a couple of times a year.tgsnoopy wrote: Fri 09/12/2022 08:48 Day 5 & particularly 6 looking interesting.

Re: US Weather 2022
This video was posted a few days ago and relates to the very cold blast of Arctic air that covered most of the USA in the lead up to Christmas 2022. Many coastal sites with an onshore wind from both lakes Erie + Michigan suffered similar accumulations of ice from the freezing of wind driven spray off the said lakes. This occurred between 23rd and 25th of December and gave some remarkable coatings of ice to buildings. The video was taken in Grand Haven (Michigan), which is on the east shore of Lake Michigan.
I wonder if the ice caused any damage to these buildings which mostly appear to have a lot of wood in their construction. I was thinking of the water contracting as it froze.
Photo attached from Buffalo (NY State) - it shows the Hoaks Restaurant.
