Probably just a southerly change with low cloud/stratus moving across judging from previous forecasts from MS regarding thunderstorms occurring on a southerly change?

However will keep an eye out.

The thunderstorm risk tomorrow is much like the one we had a week ago. It's 50/50 call but a risk is warranted.
It's not the classic onshore NE flow we want as it is a NW beforehand however you would expect a storm down mid/ south Canterbury in afternoon. Maybe not Christchurch.

I'm starting work early so can finish early to head p
Out with aaron and Steve should it happen.

I wonder sometimes that MS over-forecast thunderstorms as a safety issue these days?
They use the word possible quite often.
As I have said in previous postings, I hate the word 'thundery' which means what?
Are they thunderstorms which without seeing any lightning, which is the main cause of the sound of thunder.?

Some stunning towering cumulus off the Mid Canterbury coast this morning. Currently a gusty NW wind blowing here and perhaps a spill over shower on the way.

Starting to see some signs of towers forming south of town. Quite overcast here with the NW conditions so the warming factor isn’t quite there for any storms that do form.

Activity has weakened significantly. Some threatening looking clouds around but radar not showing much.

Nothing much happening down here. Low cloud now moving in as forecasted. Much colder.

I spoke too soon. A decent looking storm has fired up inland of here. Clouds have a green tinge to them from my vantage point.

Went for a chase with aaron and got the cell which had good structure for awhile inland from ashburton. Not bad signs for early September, imagine if this keeps up into late spring/ summer with the onshore sea breeze conditions.
