Weather Stations
Hiya, I've just joined this forum and I was wondering if you had an opinion about the La Crosse weather stations I see advertised quite extensively.
The idea is to set it up and maybe put it online.
My budget for this is pretty low so I can't run to stations that get anywhere near the thousand dollar mark.
Thanks
Peter

Hi
well, they call themselves "Proffesional " weather stations, but they are anythign but
BUT
they are good entry level weather stations
the 3600 model has a very nice large touch screen (i have one here)
and is wireless (optional) and updates every 1 minute
the 2310 model is not such a big lcd screen, but updates faster (12 seconds wireless or 6 seconds if wired (for windspeed anyway)
but if you use software that i developed, then you can add more to the basic la crosse station, like a inspeed vortex anenometer or a Dallas 1 wire anenometer (to give you 1 to 2 seconds wind speed updating), and yoi can add things like solar radiation (1 wire or connected to a labjack), lightning counts (connect to a labjack or 1 wire adaptor), extra temp/hum sensors (1 wire or labjack.com), even Ricky built himself a night time cloud detector! (see his plot of that on his graphs)
there is alot of fun to have...but the wife wont see as much of you...

i have had most of the popular electronic weather stations you can get here at one time or another, LOL...my office is usualy littered with them...LOL....and i was involved with getting one of the first WM918's into the country online, way back in 1999, at Muriwai
it would be great to get a station online in tauranga

There is already the one down at the Coastguard online.
My intention is to ultimately put one up at our radio site, it will show a useful variation to the metservice and coastguard ones in my opinion.

ah, ok, good to use freewx
shame they dont have it updating wundeground, because then at least you can see graphs...
also shame it cant be added to the mesomap live system either
(but it could if it was updating to the CWOP program )
but still great to see some data (although i see they are not using NZ's 9am reset time, and I cant see yesterdays or month to date rain...38 knot gust for yesterday is a good speed, must be a well exposed location
i will see if trevor can add it to the nz sites list

if thats OK

the Davis WMII is also a good station to look at (wired model), but maybe above your price range?
Another starting station could be a dallas 1 wire...only 75$US...but you need a PC to get the data and display it . Update interval is every 1 second. And its expanable too
. Its not wireless though.
another popular station is the Oregan scientific WMR968 (its wireless)
also maybe check out the Utlimeter 2000 too

Again thanks very much
Where are these available. I know I could import them, but is there somewhere more local?
