Re: General February Weather
Beefy showers moving through home in Halswell. Plenty of energy in the atmosphere, hope that doesn't bode poorly for Hawkes Bay etc

Re: General February Weather
Glad you folks down south have had a bit of rain. Concerning forecast for Eastern regions (particularly Hawkes Bay) and looks like the possibility of some significant downpours in Auckland area according to some models. Still a lot of uncertainty less than 24 hours out though but looks like at least some areas will get a fair whack of rain. Hopefully it won't be the worst affected areas..

Re: General February Weather
There has been a few heavy showers amongst the light to moderate rain, but nothing out of the ordinary. People in the region are suffering low key PTSD with even just a heavy shower causing concern.
Hopefully not as bad as forecast as that would cause some problems for sure, such as rivers overflowing, or potentially more damages to bridges and most likely more landslides.
We watch and wait in Hawkes Bay, but one thing is for sure- horticulture and farming has taking one hell of a hit this summer.

Looks as if our time here in Hawkes Bay helping with the cleanup (shovelling astonishing quantities of silt out of the Zeelandt brewery) is coming to an end. Everyone's been told to leave the Esk Valley now and to avoid driving tomorrow. Raining steadily in Napier now but not heavily just yet.

Driving south from Rolleston right now ... al showers
Only a few brief showers in central areas of Chch since late yesterday afternoon - presumably the Banks Peninsula southeasterly flow rainshadow at work.

Re: General February Weather
Very isolated but short heavy showers about the region today, nice to have some sun now though.
Definitely a SE flow with most of the showers peppering around the city.
What was looking like a dry weekend now has a low and front moving back down the east coast for Sunday with brief steady falls from Ashburton northwards.

Re: General February Weather
Thought I heard some distant noise, wasn't sure if it was thunder or not from the radar as the heavy stuff isn't that close yet

The main rain storm looks north Auckland on the radar. Still only have light rain here.

Re: General February Weather
Getting some good solid rain here in Hobsonville Point, in the region of 25mm/hr at the moment, Thunder too, most lightning hidden in the murk
Edit - not too far away from going under the red blob on radar, rainfall rate now at 55mm/hr.
Now under red splodge, 141mm/hr rainfall rate. Hope it doesn't linger too long
Another few edits, 160mm/hr rate

Re: General February Weather
Light rain here, more thunder and some lightning visible as we don't have too much low cloud here.

Yep hearing that occasional thunder from here, not really getting any louder though. Just very light rain here so far.

Re: General February Weather
This line is looking pretty similar to the one that caused the floods a month ago... I guess one positive is there hasn't already been 100mm of rain immediately leading up to it..

Re: General February Weather
We have had 100mm between 4 and 5pm, peak rainfall rate was 177mm/hr which was higher than the 27th Jan event.
