I think this happened on Sunday 4th June, but I am not sure. The article says 'waterspout', but this is not clear from the picture - copy attached.
Location is given as Bream Bay which I think is on the east coast of 'Northland'.
500mb temperatures were around-26C over Northland/Auckland yesterday. Auckland was largely sheltered. Bay of Plenty/Coromandel had thunderstorms yesterday as well with the onshore flow and convergence.
After a light frost this morning , a blue dome day eventuated with hardly any wind.
Today's maximum was 13.7C but warmer inside inside with the lower sun just steaming in through the window.
Becoming frosty this evening with it down to 1C at 10:30pm.

They may still get a quickfire 20 cm,but were banking on for 50 plus over a few days.
Yes, Mt Hutt picked up 19cm.
I see Metservice Methven recorded 43.3mm.
Cold and frosty in the South Island valleys this week but mild at higher elevations, not sure how much snow making can happen at Mt Hutt this week.

The rain really hugged the foothills on Sunday. We only got 4mm in Ashburton.
After a white frost this morning, another blue dome day eventuated with hardly any wind.
Today's maximum was 11.5C C but warmer inside inside with the lower sun just steaming in through the window in the conservatory.
Becoming frosty this evening with it down to 0C at 10:30pm.

Gone really foggy here from about 3:30pm.
Might keep the frost at bay tonight John. Clear sky here as it got dark, so will it be as cold as last night? Heard from a truck driver today who said he drove through a pocket of -8 just a few k's from here
After a good frost this morning, a fine day evaluated until around 3:30pm when fog moved in from the south and remained throughout the rest of the day and into the evening. 10C was the maximum for today. 4.7C at 10pm.

I see Twizel had a max of -0.1C yesterday, and Alexandra 1.1C
Yes, there will be cloud cover or fog there. During the colder months low cloud likes to form in the inland valleys during periods of settled weather and with the low angle of the sun and short days this time of year the low cloud layer sometimes doesn't burn off during the day. The Wanaka area is classic for this.
No frost here this morning as it remained cloudy overnight but it did clear this morning and the early afternoon to become fine and sunny, however it did cloud over this afternoon and remained cloudy from then on today. Only 10.4C for today.
After a good frost this morning, high cloud increased from the west and remained for most of the day.
Temperatures remaining rather cold for the rest of the day without the lack of sunshine.
Today's maximum only 8.5C.
A lighter frost this morning but a fine and sunny day eventuating.
A bit milder with a light northerly wind for a while this afternoon.
From Zero it climbed up to 15.5C for today.
I see Auckland airport is currently on 3.8C, coldest temperature of the year there.
The 500mb temperatures of -23/-24C over the upper North Island Friday-Mon is something to watch for a possible heavy shower/isolated thunder. See how it looks on the day, each day.
Looks like a cold night instore for up north of the NI overnight.
After this morning's frost, another blue dome day eventuted with not much wind.
13.5C the maximum for today.
Frosty evening with it 0.1C at 10pm and very crunchy underfoot on the grass.
For a frost here we need a colder airmass, the clear skies and light winds are not enough.
Dew point temperatures with the incoming low system are around 11C-13C, not particularly moist even for June but it is cold aloft, 500mb temperatures -22C to -24C.
The top of Northland looks the place for a thunderstorm chance and some eastern coastal areas NI.
