Fine morning but clouding in as the day wore on with clagg settling in late afternoon and evening.
19.5C this morning before the cloud and clagg settled in with light winds from between south and eat reducing the temperature to the low teens.

Re: General December Weather
Yes the temperature certainly did rocket very fast, understandably considering it had been cloudy most of the day with rain off and on.
At 2:30pm it was 22C with a light Northerly, 2:45pm 27C and a strong gusty NW.
Quite a warm Christmas week ahead next week, temperatures in the upper 20,s maybe nearing 30C in some spots.
Perhaps an entree to the rest of Raumati (summer).
Still uncertain on locking in Christmas day just yet, but there is a broad low pressure coming across the Tasman.
Probably SW by Boxing day for eastern South Island I would say.

Re: General December Weather
After a cloudy start, midrange and high cloud, there was cool morning and early afternoon with light NE winds, but then the cloud cleared away and it become warm and sunny with today's top temperature peaking out at 28.8C this afternoon.
Light winds between south and east. NW up country but nothing here although you could tell that cloud higher up was moving from the NW.
Light southerly through here just before 11pm.
Probably clagg tomorrow before it comes warm again on Sunday?

Re: General December Weather
Very warm day ahead for Canterbury region tomorrow.
Keep eye on tomorrow afternoon small chance of a storm popping up east coast tomorrow afternoon.
Very warm temperatures and DP of 14/15 could trigger a storm along the surface southerly in afternoon.

Re: General December Weather
Basically, a day of clagg today with light variant winds. Some drizzle experienced in Timaru today.
Today's maximum was only 16.6C.
After tomorrow's warmth, possible more clagg tomorrow with the southerly change?

Warm today here today. Just hit 28C.
No sign of any inclement weather although it is hindering the cricket down there in Dunedin.

Re: General December Weather
Looks like something is coming out of TC and heading towards ChCh. Whether it will last the distance, who knows.
interesting dust lines on the radar from the southerly moving north.
Muck cooler here now with the stratus moving in, not quite claggy though. Much cooler.

Re: General December Weather
Some peels of thunder in town earlier on, and drove back through town under some heavy rain.
Clearing away quickly on this side and strengthening SW winds.
Unsure why every time there is a thunderstorm there is a warning issued? The real question is what is the difference between an average thunderstorm and a severe one
.
For example today wouldn't stick out to me to be a severe day for storms. Perhaps it is severe in terms of the heavy rain in isolation causing localised flooding.
Could spend awhile dissecting this
.
Anyway it is looking quite warm through Wednesday, Thursday. Potentially around 32C for both days.
Christmas and boxing day currently have a broad low pressure crossing the south island, could be interesting for those camping especially in the west.
