Frequent showers brushing the coast south of Christchurch, but are largely weakened by banks peninsula and only last as very brief weak showers by the time they get to Christchurch, 6.7C, feels like of 4C is the warmest we have gotten today so far

A small chance of Christchurch Airport beating it's all-time lowest temp of -6.7C back in 1980 over the next 2 mornings, looks pretty optimal the conditions and also being at the very start of August won't hurt either!

Started off frosty overnight but cloud cover eased it off by dawn and as a consequence is was a mainly partly cloudy day with not much wind.
It did become sunny this afternoon with today's maximum being 11.3C. Frosty again this evening with clear skies and down to minus 0.7C at 10pm.

Mt Cook village brushing -10C overnight with a breeze. Man that would have been bitter. Still below -10C at sunrise.

Nice picture there, Tony. What is Lake Ida like? If Lake Lyndon is half frozen, Ida would be ideal for skating, probably?

The colour coordination in that photo between the hat, boots and coat and that of the hills and the snow in the shade is fantastic. =D> =D> =D> ........ =D>

Impressive winter shots through the interior, something we havnt seen enough of for quite some years.
Would have said with the overnight temperatures this week places like Lake Lyndon might get a chance to freeze more solidly like it did years ago.
However there is moderate wind movement from the NW through the interior tomorrow which will get the daytime temperatures up around 9 or 10C there.

The next week will be relatively settled, but some polar shots moving up on Thursday/ Friday. GFS and ECMWF both in disagreement with what day.
The following Monday on the 12th looks the coldest although a stones throw out. Snow to low levels possible and one to watch.
Again GFS wants nothing to do with it yet ECMWF does.

I usually wait until closer to the day as models come into agreement more.
It's a fickle world of forecasting when we have so much to look at yet not enough time looking out our window. Unless of course there is a thunderstorm brewing

I guess it very much depends upon the rate of flow through the pond, its depth, and maybe even the activity and number of the birdies thereon ;)
