Long time coming but at least we had some warmth today with 26deg today, the NW wind clearly coming off the Australian landmass

A lovely weekend on Mt Taranaki. I almost pulled the planned trip based on the forecast of a cool SWly and showers on Saturday, but the forecast for Sunday was consistently good so we decided to go. It was fairly claggy with a strong westerly through to sunset at Syme Hut, but when I got up in the small hours for a pee it had cleared completely to the most amazing starry sky with a very light easterly. Lots of meteors too. What a treat!

Low cloud overnight cleared away this morning to become a fine sunny day with light winds turning more southerly from early afternoon. Some low stratus developing with the southerly but rather scattered and clearing away late this afternoon/early evening to become a fine clear sky through to evening. Today's maximum was 23.3C..

Just back from a few days up north. Quite a lot of cloud at times, but at least no rain. Couple of scenic shots

That's interesting, here in the middle of town there hasn't been any drizzle. Any moisture is welcome.

You usually get days like that in the McKenzie when clagg and drizzle persists over the Canterbury Plains like today. I have been to Tekapo many times when it has been claggy here and once you got through Burkes Pass the skies have cleared and it is a fine and fantastic day.
...anway it was a claggy day here, grey dome day with a light NE and the odd drizzle patch contributing to today's grand total of 0.1mm in the rain gauge. Mild though, with today's maximum being 17.9C.

About 1.5mm of drizzle overnight, probably all evaporated by now with this warm humid day.
Very warm temperatures tomorrow across much of the country, also quite strong and gusty winds.
Particularly the high country but also out on the plains too.
The SW change in the evening will also be gale force when it arrives, pitty there's hardly any moisture with it.

Keep thinking how boring the weather is currently, but should really be enjoying the sunshine as I'm not sure how much we will get over summer.

There has been a burst of positive SOI in the last few weeks, and that should (all things being equal) bring some of the colder water which is lurking beneath the surface up, and drop the equatorial SSTs into weak Nina territory. MJO looks be squarely locked into phase 4/5 all through December, which are the anticyclonic phases for NZ. (High pressure west in phase 4, east in phase 5).

ENSO more likely to remain in the neutral range according to the BoM's own model.
And of the six other models it surveys, only GFS and UKMO show a slight chance of meeting or exceeding La Nina thresholds this summer.

Another rather cloudy day but not as dull and overcast or claggy as yesterday and a bit brighter as well and milder with 20.3C being the maximum for today. Light winds from between SE and east.

Certainly has in our part of Christchurch. Soils painfully dry and the total rain is sitting on 11.3mm for November.
