I don't know if you saw it but in the Ashburton Courier newspaper (Dec 5th)there was an interesting article about a man who's car was struck by lightning around the Mt. Somers area on Tuesday morning of the 26th November around 11.30am when coming back from a fishing trip to Lake Heron.
Apparently no lightning as recorded in NZ on that day according to MS. According to my weather dairy it was generally a day of clagg with some drizzle, so I don't know what caused that rouge lightning strike ?
Just read the Courier article. Interesting. Third close encounter with lightning for the man.
RE the above, I wonder if it was rouge storm like last Saturday that developed quickly in that area of which I gave up and was surprised to hear later that MS had issued a STW for ? For 26th of November there was no radar, so MS wouldn't of picked up the probability of that or any storm causing that lightning.
....anyway no rouge lightning here today as it was fine and warm with a keen NW blowing until mid afternoon when it turned more SW to south with a gradual lowering of the temperature. 28.6C it got up to before the winds turned more to the south direction and much cooler from then. Some clouding up with the wind changes but gradually clearing as the afternoon and evening wore on.

By Saturday this December's average maximum temp will be running within 0.1C the same as the previous hottest December recorded at Christchurch Airport in 2017. The last half of December 2017 ran substantially cooler then the first half with an average max of 22.3C so we could be looking at the hottest December recorded at Christchurch Airport when it's all said and done by the end of the month...

Much cooler here today with cloudy conditions and about 3 spits of drizzle around 11am. Today's maximum was 18.7C recorded about 1am this morning and again later this afternoon. Light NE winds .Clearing away from late afternoon to become totally clear and fine this evening and calm.

Quite warm indeed for this time of the morning certainly, wind is now a Northerly quarter rather than NE.
Chance of a few showers late afternoon/evening, not really much of a thunder risk as it's quite warm upstairs.
