Storms 21st - 22nd and 23rd Dec

Unread post by Richard »

Today's risks of severe thunderstorms makes it worthy of its own thread given how wide spread the warnings are from the MS this morning.

edit - Should really add the 22nd and 23rd to the thread subject

I would agree with MS this morning and their outlook.
The area for Canterbury I'm interested in is the inland timaru/ ashburton area again so I think that will be where we go Later

Inland from Timaru is guaranteed to get a storm or more on a day like this. I bet you some air that something will happen there.

Already looks like something is developing down towards Waimate way. Air feels damp and humid for this area.

I’ve just driven from Chch to Ashburton - the foothills are lined with towers already. It’s very humid here.

Low cloud returning and covering the hunter hills out back of Waimate. Still fairly mild, rain still steadily falling.

Good luck.
Got high cloud moving over here from the north, once that passes over things may start to happen.

Hi everyone, I've been a lurker for a long time, thought I'd sign up so I can see all the pics and graphs and stuff. I'm more of a weather watcher than a weather studier, so won't comment much. I do appreciate all the wisdom and knowledge you all share, thank you everyone.

Anyway, here's North Canterbury trying to get something going. Taken from behind Waikuku Beach towards Mt Oxford.

On this rangitata storm. A heap of lightning and thunder but just big flashes so far. Hard to keep out of the rain.
