Thought we might of been going for early 30,s today, but the NW is a tad too light and moderate to make it to the coast.
Breezy NE should pick up this afternoon, still late 20,s possible and currently just pipping 27C.
I see it's 30C in Ashburton.
Models overplayed this week's system initially, but still some welcome rainfall totals possible with 50+mm for some areas.
The bulk of that through Tuesday.
was a good start to autumn, until today happened, dont think we had as consistently warm of a weekend this year yet, and now today is raining, was warm before the rain came through though
20-30mm for most in the region round here. Blustery wind has kicked up as the next wee surge arrives. Staying below 20 degrees for the next week now by the looks
Conditions are expected to be quite unstable about central New Zealand this afternoon and evening as cold fronts and southerly wind changes move northwards over the area, and temperatures cool aloft. Thunderstorms, with localised heavy rain and hail, can be expected to affect many central areas.
There is a moderate risk of thunderstorms this afternoon and/or evening for areas from Auckland to northern Hawke's Bay southwards to the Westland ranges, as indicated on the chart. These thunderstorms will bring localised heavy rain of 10-25+ mm/h and hail of 5-15 mm diameter.
Note, the risk of thunderstorms is considered high about northern Marlborough, Nelson and eastern Tasman District during this afternoon and early evening, when a few of the thunderstorms could be SEVERE with localised heavy rain, large damaging hail (and/or significant hail accumulation), and possibly one or two small tornadoes. A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH will be issued for this area. A low risk of SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS with large hail also extends over northern Wellington and Horowhenua Kapiti Coast this afternoon.
There is also a moderate risk of a few thunderstorms about coastal Southland and Clutha in the early afternoon. A low risk of thunderstorms covers many other North Island and South Island areas as indicated on the chart.
No other thunderstorms or significant convection expected over New Zealand during this period.

quite overcast over Auckland today ahead of the approaching front/trough. the cloud showing up on rain radar. I hope for at least 5-10mm at most for tonight.
Just got in after a WE in Belmont Lower Hutt for a birthday celebration.
Nothing much weatherwize for the WE and it was quite a settled flight back to Timaru today.
No sign on any severe weather Marlborough way viewed from the window .

looks like on radar things are starting to fire up lower north island lower south island areas.
here in Auckland will keep a watch for a flicker/rumble tonight.
Back home after a pleasant WE weather wise in the Wellington region.
Cooler day here today with light variable winds but southerlies freshening late evening here. Some unstableness in the southerly flow this afternoon by the look of the clouds. A light shower this evening. 17C the maximum for today with a touch of an Autumnal feel to the day.
A small low feature with small trough last night by the looks.
If it was afternoon would have been thunderstorms for sure.
Showers this morning some heavy with small hail stones at times, should become few and far between by lunch.
A chilly night ahead only +4C or 5C, just 6 days into ngahuru
Over 10mm of rain last night, bringing our total for march so far to near 30mm, on MetService historical weather data page for christchurch, it has historical average rainfall for march at 40mm, so 75% there in 5 days
