Cloud cleared away overnight to become a blue dome day with cool NE breezes.
Another day like this tomorrow but with a red moonrise, apparently, tomorrow evening.

A brief warm spell coming up for the weekend and into early next week, not unusually warm but warmer than the temperatures of recent.
Mid 20,s for most and maybe cracking 30C somewhere on Monday depending on increasing high cloud.

Tuesday looks like an upper trough crossing and into a cooler SW change. Possibilities of thunderstorms and hail there in the afternoon/evening for Canterbury and Marlborough.

It was supposed to be a fine sunny day, similar to yesterday but it wasn't. Clouded over from early this morning and only started to clear about mid afternoon but then it clouded over again his evening hindering the observation of the moon, which was really a non-event here.
Today's maximum was 18.2C with light variant winds.

A blue dome day for the Ides of March
Nothing happened thank goodness despite the red moon yesterday. 8-o
...anyway a fine warm day here with a southerly picking up this afternoon. As I said a blue dome day except for some smoke in the sky from burn-offs this afternoon. 25.1C the maximum for today.
Clear this evening here for the moonrise, not like yesterday. #-o

Cold upper level conditions across much of NZ on Tuesday but the low level conditions may not be very favourable for too much in the way of thunderstorm development.
We get a spell of showers or rain here in Auckland on Tuesday. If you have not been watering your lawn in Auckland over the past couple of months then it will likely be quite burnt off.

I went for a Sunday walk up nearby Wharite Peak for a view of the lunar eclipse. Funnily enough I couldn't see the moon as it rose (wonder why?) but I did get a nice view of these lenticular clouds off to the SW. Reminded me of a school of little fish.

:-k You should have seen it. I didnt even know there was going to be an eclipse, hopped into bed and saw the moon and thought 'a new moon in the east means its close to dawn'... what the &%#$'s going on here?

I did see it in the end, but only once it has been up for half an hour and the twilight sky had darkened. Up until then I was wondering where the moon was because the horizon was clear and yet the was no sign of it after the posted moonrise time which seemed really odd. I didn't know that the eclipse was already near total (umbra) at the time of moonrise so no wonder I couldn't see it. Had to have a bit of a laugh to myself when I realised...

Quite a different story here. Lawns have been quite lush and green here. Mowed them yesterday and it has been the most luscious lawns I've seen for March here.
...any way, another sunny blue dome day today but with some cirrus forms above. No burn-offs.
Warm with light variant winds. 24.5C for today.

Almost surpassing the entire summers maximum here on 31C currently.
Strong gusty NW properly kicking in now, has been moderate most of the morning.
GFS still unsure regards where that low is in the afternoon, but certainly worth a wind watch from the SW.

33.3 according to my station at home, which does seem to run about a degree or 2 warmer then the airports station, which i guess can be down to the urban heat island effect as I dont live on the edges of the city

There is the chance for heavy showers/ isolated thunder here tomorrow afternoon/evening, see how this looks in future model runs.

Another warm day ! You would think so by the statistics for today with today's maximum being 24.6C.
No it wasn't but an overcast wet day with 35.5mm of rain falling and cool southerly winds, more so from midday with today's daytime maximum being only 12.5C with continuous rain from late morning, although it did rain in the hours before sunrise as well.

Just a couple of mm here yesterday, the chance for a heavy burst of rain here later today, thunder chance is low.
Today will feel Autumnal in Auckland.
