Re: Easter Weather
Here in Auckland we had phone text alerts warning for severe thunderstorms/heavy rain on Saturday afternoon and yesterday evening, did we really need these? There certainly should have been a severe thunderstorm warning on Friday night.

No, it’s a knee jerk reaction to having missed the Friday night event in my opinion. Over use of these will make them more easily dismissed by the publicspwill wrote: Mon 21/04/2025 09:05 Here in Auckland we had phone text alerts warning for severe thunderstorms/heavy rain on Saturday afternoon and yesterday evening, did we really need these? Re: Easter Weather
Try and find any info on the supposed writer Kathleen Westbrook, I had no luck. Looks like AI to me.

Re: Easter Weather
Probably not. I see on UTube that someone or thing has posted showing Auckland as a disaster area after Cyclone Tam ravaged New Zealand.Orion wrote: Mon 21/04/2025 14:38I wonder if that was written by a human being...tich wrote: Mon 21/04/2025 11:32 This must certainly be fake news:

Getting well off-topic here, but the example above seems to be fairly typical of Microsoft's MSN AI generated fake news...

Re: Easter Weather
45mm in total in takanini. good show early Saturday morning with lightning/thunder.
they still have not learnt their lesson though in regarding the right timing for the emergency alerts. i do know there were heavy showers west Auckland Saturday afternoon but no alert and only a watch issued on midnight Friday/Saturday? weatherwatch nz did a good job of pointing out the thunderstorm risk with this ex cyclone.

Re: Easter Weather
The wettest Auckland Council site I can find for the the 6 days to Easter Monday was 152mm at Mt Roskill (104mm of that in just 2 hrs).tornado wrote: Thu 24/04/2025 11:49 I am not sure about this qoute here.

Many Auckland sites have also recorded well over 200mm for the month so far, with Mt Roskill and Swanson topping the list at 268mm.
Edit: Found a council forestry site up near Dome Valley (SE of Wellsford) that recorded 211mm in the 6 days to Easter Monday (mtd 328mm).
