Looked to be only a narrow strip that got the very large fall of hail, maybe 2km wide.
The Hail Storm crossed highway 1 around kaiwaka and moved out to sea between Waipu Cove and Langs Beach, Hail stones where larger on the coast.
$2 coin and hail stone

Warkworth to Bream Bay/Waipu told ya so! But not the hail.. that was amazing!!!!!
Rain lightening now.. but boy.. that was the most wintery day we've had this year.
11.7c Max I was thinking 14c was low!
As for thunderstorms tomorrow, they look on but should only be very isolated
Brrrrr it's cold!! I notice Waiouru is on 3c at 10pm with recent precip.
Does look very cold in the UK, an early winter there.

Regular showers (uncommon for us) in the last 24hrs or so and much colder than for weeks, but now mainly sunny. Cannot complain as month was very dry up to last Thursday and sunshine is well up for month and for the year. If MetService is right Gisborne is getting a return dose of earlier medicine.
Talked to a MetService guy who is collating info. on NZ's major past floods. The worst two were both 19th century - 1897 (Manawatu) and from memory 1867 (mostly eastern S Island). An extreme rainfall was 510mm in 10 hours at Rissington in the Esk Valley (Anzac floods of 1938?)

Continuing pattern of cloudy periods and sunny intervals in Chch today, but staying rather chilly in the onshore flow. Any SI showers probably now confined to the Kaikoura Coast now.
Latest mountain forescast has snow down to about 1100m on the Tararuas and Ruahines.Brrrrr it's cold!! I notice Waiouru is on 3c at 10pm with recent precip.

There is some convection happening locally, and out to the east of here you can see a few large anvils that would be remaining from the just departed system

Its happening all around us again settled weather here but rough stuff in other places across the world.
Australia spectacular storms Europe cold snap pacific islands unsettled with showers and storms I guess there's gotta be a prolounged period of bad weather coming up maybe January will be an unsettled month unstead of the sunny month it usually is hmm who knows.
Interesting about the cold snap in Europe sounds much like our snap of snow we had in September.
