The showers weren't that heavy (the rain that I noticed); must've been a blocked drain somewhere. Only just over 1mm at Hillmorton. On the 7pm radar, I did notice a patch of purple in the same rain band, but it was well offshore.Rain over now according to one news weather karren said thunderstorm over inland areas and surface flooding in central chch due to heavy showers.

Tonight may be 'sleepable' - just dropped below 20 here... I bet there have been a heap of fans sold over the past week or two! I even considered one of those heat pumps!Michael wrote:Didnt feel as hot today as the last week but the positive of the Wind that arrived today at least could mow the long lawn

Out and about this afternoon/evening. Saw no thunder clouds although the sky was dark in a few areas especially to the NW and north.
Travelled through many rain showers from 5pm onward, none of them were exceptionally heavy. Only 1.7mm here and 0.1mm out at West Melton but there could of been more there after we left.
Tomorrow looks like a similar day although I never saw the weather forecast on the telly.

Heat pumps are a brillant bedroom investment. Best of all the noise from the fan helps mask the noise from *$#% noisy neighbours or children
I'm very close to buying one myself presently. But a have a friend who's looking into splitting inexpensive dehumidifiers into miniture heatpumps ideal for smaller rooms like bedrooms
He has done a number previously but the model he split isn't available anymore and he is trying to find another suitable design.
Meanwhile I too have been suffering at night, although not as bad since I mounted a peice of MDF in the window with 4 computer fans sucking cooler outside air in

But is your thermometer in a well-maintained Stevenson screen, 1.5 meters above mown grass, and well clear of any buildings or other heat emitting or reflecting obstacles and sources?Flutterbye wrote:TV weather guy 'only 16 in the south due to cloud cover and SW'
Rubbish - mainly sunny after a crisp start and light winds - I recorded a high of 22 by 5.00pm and it went up to 23 right before the frontal cloud moved in. Some light rain now with no wind and a current reading of 16.

I'm told the pot plant saucer variety work very well, considering the low cost. Maybe worth a look.Flutterbye wrote:Not a Stevenson screen but a covered sensor 1.5m above a very low cut lawn, mounted on a very wide post facing south, well away from all the above. But I am considering getting one when finances allow and I'll be able to compare them.
