Crikey...as you know I've said numerous times already, our old and new Davis stations (a Monitor III and a VP2 respectively) are working okay. I've not had any serious hardware issues with them. The "bad experience" you keep referring to is discovering I should not have bought them in the first place. They were simply too much money for what they are.Manukau heads observer wrote:one very important thing to note:

I think until you have a later model davis station then you cant realy compare....my thoughts
I operate a mixture of breeds: Davis, Oregon Scientific, Vaisala, etc. They range in price from the $200 I paid for two OS WM-918s from DSE, back when they stopped selling them, to the tens of thousands for the research-level equipment. But here's the thing: there's very little difference in performance, features, or quality between the cheap stations and the uber-expensive Davis gear. A huge price difference, but little in quality or performance, considering they're not research-grade, no matter what Davis' advertising may claim.
If I could do it all over again, I'd either snap up a huge number of WM-918s cheap, or buy a few high end, Campbell Scientific/Vaisala-type stations. For the price of one Davis VP2 I could get ten WM-918s at $200 each, yet, for the vast majority of users, the WM-918 performs as well as the Davis, and is as robust and reliable. Neither the Davis or OS stations are a patch on the CS/Vaisala level equipment, but you'd expect that...so why not use the price of a single Davis VP2 to buy a bunch of less expensive stations which are going to perform just as well as a VP2?
The Davis is good quality consumer-grade equipment, but not worth the price demanded, especially when you can buy an AWS which is as good as a Davis for a hell of a lot less money. Since few people require the performance of a research grade AWS (such as a CS, etc), they'd be far better off buying an inexpensive (ie non-Davis) station instead. That's my opinion.
