Looks like northwesterlies over NZ now - probably warmer in Chch than it has been for weeks. But I'm in balmy Byron Bay, where it must be about 30C and it's sunny.

(though I can see a cb to the west - storms are predicted, though mostly inland)

Nuclear Power is the way to go, to me the way we think in NZ is backward. Economic growth just cant be suppourted with the prices electrity are now.

Is that from fully sustainable resources? Because Aus can keep their Uranium.. it will be gone before we know it with China just hitting a big deal

. NZ running on a big surplus.. we should really be investing in renewable energies now, the tidal currents have huge potential.

That cold weather for SE Australia looks like it will really persist.. as jason points out it should form a new low SW of Stewart Island..

Its the money spinners who own and supply the power keep the prices artificially high.notice the profits are greater in a high demand-low supply year

You are right there, Michael ... but I think that Hamilton/Auckland should be more worried about their electricity supplies rather than anywhere else in New Zealand.

Being a sparky, I think that there's no reason that every house couldn't have solar panels and a small turbine running 12V batteries hooked up to an inverter to run just the lights even. I haven't seen these solar hot water units, but they seem to be taking off a bit...

It works for observatories too!
