Metservice is now forecasting snow down to 900m in Southern Lakes area, but it obviously got lower than that, enough to close the Lindis Pass. 3C with recent precip at Tara Hills at 6am, so this isn't surprising.spwill wrote:

No one forecast that.
Gonna go get pics if you're interested.

Might be some on the top of Castle Hill Peak but that would be 1800+m which is closer to the forecast freezing level.Gary Roberts wrote:Anybody else get any? Dunedin or Christchurch guys?
The new Tekapo webcam is at about 1000m and there's snow as far as you can see down the hillside

5cm on the Lindis (yep, it's closed), and sleet falling from Burke Pass to Simons Hill (just north of Lake Pukaki). The highway between Oamaru and Palmerston is closed because of surface flooding, and SH83 between Omarama and Oamaru is borderline.tich wrote:Metservice is now forecasting snow down to 900m in Southern Lakes area, but it obviously got lower than that, enough to close the Lindis Pass. 3C with recent precip at Tara Hills at 6am, so this isn't surprising.spwill wrote:

Yes, these pics suck, but I've always freely acknowledged being the World's Worst Photographer, so I make no apologies to you guys who know how to use a camera properly!

To 0900, 27mm at Omarama, 24mm at Lake Ohau, and your guess is as good as mine at Twizel (I was supposed to toss out the braindead Davis station and install the new Vaisala today, but called in crook instead...heh...)Andy wrote:Cheers Gary
How much rain have you recorded so far?
18mm here in Alex. Temp 7.8 - with steady light rain falling.
Day off work for me
3.6° at Lake Ohau right now, but a balmy 6.5° in tropical Omarama.

On the Lake Ohau and Omarama pages you can use the 'Extremes' link ( http://www.observatory.org.nz/weather/o ... ndex1.html & http://www.observatory.org.nz/weather/l ... ndex1.html )Manukau heads observer wrote:is there anywhere to see yesterdays rain totals gary on your web sites?
Unfortunately the current Twizel station doesn't work properly, and won't play nice with HTML, so don't even waste your time with that.

EDIT: The engineer guys have got one lane open now at Moeraki.Gary Roberts wrote:The road at Moeraki (where the 'famous' spherical boulders are to be found, between Oamaru and Dunedin) is to stay closed for between three and eight days due to sever surface flooding and slips. The Lindis Pass has just reopened though.

Good photo's, I grew up in Mosgiel and never saw the Silver stream that high. Some good flooding photos here

The biggest threat for flooding down on the Taieri comes from the Taieri River but it usually takes a day or two for the water to come down from the back country.
