This weekend could be either completely fine for Canterbury, or we could get scattered (somewhere, but not everywhere) thunder and hailstorms. The models are going for a 'critical' southwesterly for the weekend. Which means it'll probably stay fine in Chch, though there's always the possibility of thunder and hail should a southwest change come at the right time - ie late afternoon, preceded by a northeasterly sea-breeze. MetService (in its latest forecast) is going for fine weather for the weekend here (and they'll probably be right).

At the moment I'm not putting out a Thunder-Watch but will do if conditions suit.

Yes .. later in the day some boring weak castellatus froms developed in the Sc cloud that formed. Despite the weakness of the cloud, probably due to a rising barometer and stable air aloft, and the fact that the fresh Ne died away in the evening, I didn't expect anything although a few drops did fall around about 10pm here.tich wrote:After being fine for most of the day, cloud thickened from the west late afternoon (Akaroa area), but came to nothing. Partly cloudy now, but the clouds not threatening to deliver anything (though isolated showers predicted for tonight).
Next Thursday conditions look likely for another Thunder-Watch warning but will wait until we get closer to the day before issuing a Thunder-Watch.
