Day 1, Drove from Dallas to Joplin on the Missouri/Kansas border. Thunderstorms developed 50km west of the town after 9pm. Observed a spectacular Lightning show between midnight and 2am. Kept a safe distance from the storm ( Cg's about 10 km away).

No, so strictly its off-topic, but it reflects the majority interest of most of the members of the forum and comes from two key members of the forum who have earned the respect of the rest of us through their knowledge of local conditions.

In Springfield, Missouri. Spent the day around the Kansas/Missouri border. Storms fired in Missouri about 5pm providing a great lightning show for the evening. Several flashes a second at times. Good stuff and we all got lightning snaps. Dewpoints have come up here with dps of 20C today, Max temp 32C. CAPE late afternoon was 3500. Hence the big lightning show. :D

Tomorrow we are heading for eastern Colorado to target possible supercells there. A big drive in store for us.

Good pictures there, my brother is moving to just outside Springfield in Missouri in July. Bought a dairy farm there. He knows it's in the top end of 'the Alley". Hope to stay there next year or the year after depending on our shift to West Melton.
Have to get the NZTS represented officially on a Yank storm-chase before I retire. :D

Day 3 was spent in Kansas. Decided against Colorado as we would be back tracking tomorrow. Currently in El Dorado, SE Kansas. Been watching CG lightning from storms in this area.

Tomorrow we shot north for possible supercells in Nebraska. :)

In Lincoln, Nebraska.

We experienced severe thunderstorm conditions this evening. Outflow gusts in excess of 50kts and intense lightning. Also had a small amount of hail (1cm) and observed gustnadoes.

Photos shortly.

The orange colour at the base of the storm is lightning.

A sample of my lightning photos tonight.

Strong wind when I was taking the photo, so some camera shake. :(

For day 5 we will be chasing the frontal boundary in Missouri/Illinois.

Can still see frequent lightning to east of here but this line should weaken overnight and reactivate again tomorrow afternoon over Missouri. :D
