Last nights TV Weather map showed a large high over us with a weak easterly flow over the far north.Doesn't look that with "gales" likely today

Auckland Airport reports SW 14knots.

Looks to be 10-15knots right across AK, so the forecast sea breezes unlikely. SW'esters will disappear overnight.

Current temperature range 23C to 26C across AK.

Tomorrow looks a hotter day for the whole country except for the rainy fiordland. I feel sorry for people who are on tramping holidays down there. Places like the Routeburn track must be shrouded in cloud/rain just about all the time this summer.

I never saw the TV weather map as I don't watch nowdays.
It would be, or based,as the same one for noon at http://www.metservice.co.nz/maps/index.asp

Indeed Steven, this time of year but things should improve down there when, or if , the anticyclones kick in moving genarally eastward over NZ this month or next.

The front in the Tasman Sea looks unstable this morning so thunderstorms on the way for Fiordland and Westland. But like the last front, this one will weaken as it moves north into strong ridging.

Perfect day in Auckland. Clear and calm. Areas sheltered from the afternoon sea breeze should get quite hot.

Yes, they, (...um MetService) have reduced the possibility of showers with the southerly change here to patchy drizzle for tomorrow.

Not as hot here today, only 25C with a patchy thin altostratus cloud cover and a light NE breeze. I got to 33.7C here yesterday which is the highest recording so far this summer.

nice afternoon sea breeze, 26oC before it arrived (which brought 20oC dew point with it)

did you guys see the picture of the blown down main transmission lines in molesworth station ?

YES
The winds must of been very strong there
There was nothing of note here in ChCh. The winds must of passed high overhead.
Actually it was more windier here when MetService cancelled the wind warning.

Yes I noticed that too,as soon as Metservice dropped its wind warning the wind became very gusty.
