According to the latest ECMWF, it looks as those the 'Roaring 40s" are chucking up some depressions, resulting in a rather disturbed W/SW flow for the coming week for New Zealand.
One of them which could produce thunderstorms to Canterbury next Saturday at this stage
Apart from breif afternoon rain tomorrow here it should be a rather warm week.
Thursday could be into the mid 20's here is hoping .
Sunday,Monday,Tuesday look interesting too something to watch.
19.3C here before back to 18C now with a NW breeze.
Cheers
Jason.
Early morning frosts around Banks Peninsula and Chch, plus a slight dusting of snow (looked more like frost), on some high peaks around Akaroa and Little River from last evening's showers. But otherwise a fine mild day.

The flow now seems to be more W/NW from this with a more active one coming our way on Friday. No thunderstorms now, sadly, unless this system tends a more southerly direction.

i can see your house (well the suburb where you live) , from here.
we have already been over 13oC here this morning
the afternoon is not even here yet, so why are you comparing yesterday afternoon to todays this morning?
It was a sort of 7/8 cloudy day here with a NW Arch not having much gap of blue sky between it and the cloud along the Alps.
Mild day with NW breezes.
May be interesting as the week progresses
Thundery in the west with some tornadoes

30°C in Sydney today!
A lot of northwesterly drag in the Tasman coming straight of Aus, come big temps on the way.. up to ~26°C?
850mb temps rising to 12°C over most of the South Island.. probably the temperatures we would see in a warm NW flow during November!
That front looks thundery, but we wont get anything, like 2mm last night.
Wow that is warm for the time of year it is yes perhaps temps into the mid twenties tomorrow or friday .
Still NE here at the moment NW hasnt hit yet should be here about 5pm if not sligthly later with a few big gusts.
Tomorrow morning I am still thinking could be a short strong blow from the alps but will see.
MS backed off abit on thier 140kmh to 120kmh now but still could be some biggies in some inland open areas.
Cheers
Jason.
Yes Jase, a keen ENE blowing here at the moment keeping the temperature at about 12°C
NW should come through about 8pm according to MetService, then the temperature should warm up a little
