Yes, Met Service were ambitious with those temperature forecasts for Dunedin and Mosgiel. Doesn't look to be the NW gradient there today. If a land breeze does cut in on the easterly you should get 18C or 19C.
I was in Dunedin for Thursday/Friday, enjoyed exceptional spring weather. But for a couple of hours each afternoon there was a cold easterly. I was wondering whether that was a sea breeze effect or just a gradient induced wind. Very early in the spring for a sea breeze but then September is a lot drier and milder in Otago this year than normal. I suspect there will be a good drought in Otago this spring/summer.

yes, good point, how are you going to get a low temperature less than the current prevailing dew point
i think they rely too much on computer generated info and maybe sometimes it needs to be human checked more?
I live on the otago peninsula, and we often are 'blessed' with the cool easterly sea breeze in summer, keeping us 5C at least cooler than even in town.
Todays case it's more of a gradient effect from what I can read, it's too stiff and persistent for a sea breeze.
Spring downn here (ask anny stdent during exam time) is a lot better than the perception of dunnners is, and you're right the last couple of days were stunning. Darn northerly has put paid to that this morning.
But anecdotally as mentioned things tend to go; cool easterly dies out by 4pm then Nor West influence kick in for the evening.
The warm high of 22C i think is gone out the window although it could be a warm night ahead perhaps 15-17C for quite some time especailly once the NW kicks in.
Only got as far as 15C today was NE but absoulutly no wind outside now and overcast with a thick veil of high cloud.
EDIT.. 4 minutes on NW breeze just kicking in now very light though at the moment looks like it is NW inland the high cloud has thinned out.
Cheers
Jason.

Warm overnight low could be looking at a mid twenties temp tomorrow.
Looking like another day of cool onshore winds for Christchurch and Dunedin tomorrow but Monday looks good for a NW'ester.
Should be NW then W-SW from about midday and the SW wind will not be cold should be like fridays.
19.7C outside more like a late spring paradise maybe even early summer .
Cheers
Jason.
it's a strange anomaly that must get up the kilt of the folks down here, but once again tonight I am looking at sky weather 11pm and Dunedin is the warmest place on 19°, with 22k NW.
I can't keep count how many times I check temps at this time of night and Dunners is the warmest place in NZ.
Our image is not the best in the sun seekers handbook, but as any scarfie walking around the streets at this time of night will tell you, it can be quuite balmy late in the evening?
It's warm here too up the road in ChCh. I just went out and it was 18.5°C
Still lots of distant crackling sferics.
Interesting Boltex readings I'm getting this evening.
