This photo is not one of mine, it was passed onto me many years ago.
This storm is near Christchurch (Port Hills on left). The landscape looks very dry. The precipitation coming from this cloud looks like hail.
I have scanned the print and placed it up here for the interest of the NZTS.
Great Pic, I've just come to a conclusion that every photo of anything to do with a Ts I like, but especially ones of events that are in NZ. Also that looks like that pic was taken during the day, must have been a brilliant stroke of luck or something, I haven't got reflexes that fast.
Thanks Steven I'd love a copy. I am building a collection of storm photos on my wall mainly Canterbury storms and I'd love to have that one in my collection.
I wasn't even in existence then but it must have been a good year for thunderstorms because of course the famous Halswell Tornado happened that year which destroyed quite alot of property.

It was an awful summer (I was in Wanganui at the time) but the summers here since 2000(Nov-Jan periods) in Auckland lately have been very similar to that 1982/83 summer with all the showers and cold wind from the SW.
Yes, that El Nino was a good year for thunderstorms although I never recorded them, except by a microphone out of the window, but I lost the tape unfortunately. Some good claps recorded!
