Not sure if this should be in another thread, but here it goes...from my vantage, there is a BIG towering anvil growing up in N Canterbury...out your way, Tony T! :D
Don't have my camera on me, DOH!!

Tracker seems to be showing some hits as well from up thar....

Some nice TCu visible to the north through the ragged stratus about an hour ago, then a rumble of thunder in the last 5 mins. I think the tracker is plotting the strikes too far north, judging by the latest satpix. However, the St has closed in here now, so I cant see anything.

So, based off the time of my original post, we were posting at about the same time.... ;)

I havnt heard any thunder yet but have seen some very impressive turkey towers this afternoon
Its very obvious these storms are generated by heat convective etc... and im still waiting for those days where they come from the south from very cold fronts!
Anyhow it is good too hear and see that there are storms out there never the less :D

An interesting evening indeed 8) great to hear those rumbles again :D .
The CB has gone through now with light to moderate rain and 2.1mm.
Looks to be a storm to the south still going off and a good one to the north near Hanmer perhaps.
Odd pic below couldn't take too much because of all the low cloud obscuring it all.
I see perhaps a slight chance tomorrow afternoon along the windchange hmm shall see about that  .
Edit..Although to note there is a light NWer possible before the change bumping the temp up to 28C but if the winds are NE then i would think it would be more on the cards.
Cheers
Jason.

Pity the MetService Canterbury radar has failed :( , otherwise we could follow the path of these storms. No rain has reached central Chch, and it's mild (18C) and rather humid for here.

Looked like some very nice storms down there yesterday. Very good moisture with Chch dewpoints 15-17C .

Today there's cloud cover and NW winds over the Mnt tops so it looks like storm activity will be along the Front.

Yeah, there's a moderate risk of thunderstorms later this afternoon in Canterbury. Warm and humid so far in Chch, with a few spits of rain, even though the wind appears to have gone southerly. Must be the 1st front - 2nd one must be one to deliver the action.

MetService website still seems to having problems - can't get any radar more recent than 4am. :(

Latest MetService rain radar...(and yes it appears there have been difficulties with radars...sorry about sending 2!)

Not looking good thunder wise again unfortunatly nothing looks thundery out and it's slowly cooling down 15C now.
I see further north near hanmer and marlborough have had thunderstorms in the last hour.
Bit of rain here not quite 1mm though.
Cheers

Looked too be some towering CU around 3 pm i think inland!
but nothing suggests to me there is going too be thunder :( but i will stick too a low risk chance tonight. ;)

Seems to have fizzled out to just a few light showers now. TV1 Weather mentioned there were some thunderstorms about the foothills this afternoon, but while there was some briefly heavy rain in central Chch in early evening, I didn't notice anything thundery.

I notice the Ashburton obs have shown 23C for 7pm and 19C for 10pm tonight. :? Surely there must be an error (or the thermometer is near a heater or something), as I can't imagine such temperatures in the southerly that they must've been receiving along with the rest of Canterbury.
