From about 800m and up. Ranges from a mere dusting to a solid fall. Lovely!

thats a 8.3 hpa pressure drop in 3 hours!

amazing weather pattern, its like a JUNE pattern!
next big low is now coming into the picture from south of australia, for saturday...batten down the hatches for that one!

Patchy snow from recent cold days still visible on the Alps from Chch today - even with the warm weather of yesterday and today. According to mountain forecasts, should be more tomorrow - to 900 metres in the south and (judging by predicted freezing levels) about 1500 metres in top of South Island and 1700 metres on Ruapehu. Looks like early start to autumn. But snow down to 800 metres near Omarama today - did you really mean 1800 metres Gary?.

Barometer very low here this evening, fairly close to my minimum mark but the front overnight will probably increase it.
The next low might reach the mark, I hope on Saturday.

I see BlueSkies Weather Services are worried about the possibility of damaging wind on Saturday advising people to tie things down, etc.

I think the biggest risk to property will be from 'gustnadoes' from the thunderstorms in western regions. Isolated gusts to 75knots likely on Saturday.

The office in Omarama is at 440m and there was some snow below the summit of St Cuthbert which has already gone this morning. The heavier stuff above 1,500m is still around, and rather fetching it is too. This was the first summer I can remember Benmore Peak having almost no snow at all on it, but there's a fair bit on top now (although who knows how long that'll last).

Heavy rain this morning (24mm/hour at 1:05 AM) but nice and fine now.

Man, you've got an awsome workplace Gary!

Thunder in the Kaimai Ranges / Matamata area today aswell as off the east coast of the North Is, off the east coast of the South Is (out in Pegasus Bay) and a we bit down in Southland.

The amount of lightning over NZ yesterday was huge!! And I didn't get to see one bit off it!... Still........ let the good times roll $\:D/$ Do you think anythings in the pipeline for us soon John?

We got a huge gust from the NW last night and it then went WSW-it broke a tree not far away,there was no lightning or thunder but spherics were on the AM band last night making it hopeless to dx

Should try vhf - the NZ police have had heaps of trouble with the NSW and Queensland police repeaters sharing the same frequencies as NZ. I've heard the aussies a couple of times over the past month.

Its tropo skip We get it mostly in the warmer months.
I was listening to 88.1 not too long ago and 88.0 Nomeua I think overode it fading in and out in stereo,Brisbane and QLD stations can come in depending on the upper layers.
I like dxing FM as well and TV can do it as well being VHF

NEW barometer low pressure mark today on barometer.
I'm down to the 970mb mark at 12:15pm today
