Greeting from Canada

Unread post by jeff50 »

Hello all,

First post to a forum in this part of the world, so I`d like to say a big hello from a cold and snowey Canada.

I`ve been running a website based in the maritimes region of Canada. I`m originally from the UK but moved here a while back.

The site worked more than I imagined, considering it was intended as a place for my photos!

Last week I launched a forum, one of the first in this region of Canada. Well to be honest, there are not many weather boards in Canada, most are south of the border.

So, I invite you folk to take a look, register if you wish. It would be nice to see some obs/news from New Zealand, I just know Canadians are intrigued about your weather, after all it`s different from -40C and snow, surely!!!

http://www.maritimesweather.com

Current conditions here in Moncton at 15.10pm AST

Temp -3C, DP -4C, winds E 6km/h, overcast with moderate snow............ Rather mild today!! Our lowest temperature this winter was -38.9C, mild compared to other parts of Canada!

Current snow depth 72cm.... highest this winter, 168cms, total this winter 309cms +/-10cms. All figures as of March 19th 2004.

The scene from my backyard this morning....

Hi Jeff50

it would be interesting if we had some snow here in winter We just get boring rain or showers blown across all winter. As youre in a maritime climate I suppose you get lots of gales and rain in the warmer seasons :?:

Sounds like when I was back in England :D I live in New Brunswick, which is the farthest inland of the three maritimes provinces. We have a generally more continental climate than say Nova Scotia which is more moderated by the sea.

This means, our summers can be hot and at time, uncomfortably humid. Winters can get down right freezing, -30C is not uncommon. Plenty of snow too. I live in Moncton, 300cms + a winter is very common.

It`s always interesting to read up obs from other parts of the globe, whether boring to you guys, to me it`s different.

I find grey skies and snow for months, boring!!!

Anyways, glad to be on here. Hope to see a few of you on maritimesweather.com sometime. :)

Apologies for not being around much. Jeez, I sign for a board then clear off!!

I`ve been pretty busy at work, then our forum board had a major problem which resulted in us losing our database :(

Last two weeks I`ve given the site a make-over, trying to take advantage of the lack of good Canadian weather sites over here

Winter is finally past us now, temperatures here are in the mid twenties, the mosquitoes are out in force, yup summer has just arrived! Although today it`s more fall-like than summer!!

Still, out on the pacific coast, temperatures have reached over 100F, even up into the Yukon they have reached the upper thirties  Of course this is causing major problems with the tinder dry forests across BC and the Yukon :(

Ooops, a little bit about what we`ve (or rather what I`ve done) done to the site and forum :)
Maritimes Weather gets a late late spring clean!

Gone has the personal website feel, and in comes a more
detailed site packed with charts and forecast information.
The site is now more interactive with the forum, along with
the newly installed galleries.

The index/homepage now has upto date weather conditions from
all the major Canadian cities, these are taken fresh from the
NOAA metar reports.

We also have included the latest imagery from both
Environmental Canada and the NOAA. We also plan
to add new images soon based upon overlaying surface
charts and the latest satellite images. I`m playing with the software first

Models can be accessed from Maritimes Weather, of course
these are directed at the Canadian weather.

We also plan to launch our newsletter service on July 1st (after weeks of promises),
people who are interested in receiving a copy will have to
sign up for this due to anti-spam measures.

We plan on making the site one of the premier weather
sites for Canadian weather. Somewhere for people to find a
forecast, somewhere for people to find weather information,
somewhere for people talk weather.

When it comes to the Canadian weather, this will be it
