...the mountains have had a light dusting to just above ground level since Sunday, but tonight we're getting a heavy fall in town (approx 400m ASL).

According to Metservice the snow-level should be above about 500 metres. But like this morning it seems to be falling lower in various parts of Canterbury.

Frosty here tonight,clear skies and very cold.
Looks like things could change though with another surge working its way up the South Is tonight,as per latest satellite.

There is a band of rain moving toward Coastal Otago for tomorrow and that could produce inland snowfall though freezing levels will be rising.

In case anyone has forgotten, we're still in early April believe it or not :o And yet another wintry blast (ie snow to low levels in the south) is due in the weekend.
