Yes nice to see some decent rain on the radar this morning, we've had 4mm in the last hour here and sitting on 21C. Not windy though. Got down to 19.2C overnight.

Re: Tropical Cyclone FUNA
Brian, the low is forecast to be due west of Auckland midnight tonight and cross the SI (Buller/Canterbury) tomorrow afternoon. Funa has passed a long way away from the North Island being right up near Norfolk Island currently.

Re: Tropical Cyclone FUNA
I guess it should be able to cover that amount of ground...at the speed its now travelling at...when you look at how much it has drifted since last night
hopefully this frontal zone over northland is then pushed down onto us more....

Re: Tropical Cyclone FUNA
Only 3mm rain overnight in Laingholm, and overnight low a rather uncomfortable 20deg. Encountered some heavy showers en-route to Takapuna this morning, and it seems to be noticeably breezier north of the Harbour Bridge, though still nothing exceptional by any stretch.

Re: Tropical Cyclone FUNA
AWESOME
getting a good shower at the moment. Wont last long but its actually wt the graound for the first time.
When looking at sat images it looks as if the piece N of the centre is forming into a front and could possibly move down over the west coast of both islands. Is that what is forcast??

Just hit 30C here with 18C dewpoints. I hope the afternoon thunderstorms that are being forecast for Manawatu/Wanganui and Wairarapa do eventuate.

Have had around 3mm of rain in the last 12 hours and still a mild 23deg with DP of 19.6ºC Very mild with the warm front gliding over us right now - mixed wind directions from SE to N and to S and NE.
With strong easterlies coming, whenver the warm front gets closer to that cold front - there could be quite a lot of rainfall - perhaps West Coast SI?
The barometer is slowly dropping here as the ridge of high pressure across central NZ gets squeezed out to the SE. Hmm high woinds tomorrow - remind me not to bring my racing bike to work!!

Re: Tropical Cyclone FUNA
What's more accurate?
My tipping bucket gauge has 9.1mm since the first rain yesterday, but my new Nylex manual gauge (professionally calibrated) has 6.8mm.
Also to note, my cheap rain gauge I began with in 2005 has 8.2mm (for a comparison it recorded 1133mm last year compared to 1240mm in my tipping bucket gauge).
I don't know what's correct! Manual gauge or tipping bucket?

you will get variations in rain gauges that are side by side
the bigger the collection area, the more accurate

Re: Tropical Cyclone FUNA
Marge marge the rains are ere
, just starting to spit here and looks to be some rain on the way down from the north.
Tomorrow could be interesting as lows are when they move across the south island, plenty of strong wind and welcome rain.
Cheers
Jason.

Re: Tropical Cyclone FUNA
Steven, you were pretty much on the money. The thunderstorms did not eventuate, even though temperatures here in the Manawatu, Wanganui and Wairarapa got into the low 30s. There seemed to be too much middle/upper level cloud at times, which would have limited the convection over the land.NZstorm wrote: I don't see much opportunity for thunderstorms in this system unless we get some hot temperatures over land.
Still 26C at the moment with 20C dewpoint.

When the weather fails to live up to expectations, its usually not the weather's fault...Vertigo wrote:well, i was about to write it off as a nothing storm, then funa gave me todays weather. its not awesome, but its quite wet and quite windy. half makes up for its total avoiding of auckland. stupid storm.

Re: Tropical Cyclone FUNA
Perhaps to make up for tomorrow we had another day of light or no winds at Tawa.
Got to 30 degrees just after midday.
Still at 21.4 with dewpoint 19.7 at 10:30 p.m. and still conditions. Uncomfortable.
In those years that we experience such conditions here, they'd normally arrive in February and be a little drier.
More "entertainment" on the way from Funa tomorrow, I guess.

Re: Tropical Cyclone FUNA
its got a move on again, LOL
which is a shame, as that next rain activity has now moved into the BOP
but we should get some more shower lines with the front on the north side of it....
