Some of the main centre values at the end of the report are missing a day's readings. Of interest to janewaystv, In'gill's sun total should be enough to give it a record yearly high, and slightly more than Dunedin's yearly total (though the EWS reading would be lower).

Re: NIWA summary, December 2007
Funny how it states that Auckland had a significant soil moisture deficit, the figure they use at Owairaka of 82mm is stated to be 'near normal'. I know some parts had lower totals (eg Grahams Beach 56mm and Grey Lynn 63mm). Possibly it was because of our dry November?
Just from the national climate database - Airport had 893mm for the year (as opposed to the 888mm in the newspaper), and Owairaka came in on 1096mm, both drier than normal (Ak Airport 1971 to 2000 average 1108mm, so 215mm decifit, or almost 20% drier, Owairaka 1971 to 2000 average 1240mm, 144mm deficit, almost 12% drier).
I don't have any averages and there are no stations in my area sadly, but I got 1240mm here. (Much wetter March and April than rest of Auckland).

Just looked at IVC sun data - a yearly total of 1881.8 hrs - a new record. Old record was 1853.0 in 2006. Yearly average is 1638.8 hrs.RWood wrote:http://www.niwa.cri.nz/__data/assets/pd ... 712sum.pdf

December's total of 240.2 hrs highest since 1994 (252.0 hrs) & possibly one of the highest in the whole country (?) seeing the NI had a quite cloudy December.
This makes Dec. 2007 the 3rd sunniest on record, equal with Dec. 1932. Dec. 1973 comes 2nd with 249.8 hrs.

4th driest since records began at the Aero site in May 1962. 1982 heads the top of the list with 833mm, 1974 with 838mm and 1973 with 863mm. 1993/1994 data missing.Manukau heads observer wrote:did auckland aiport get one of its driest years on record?

Yep, very little doubt that the increases over recent years for In'gill, Wellington, Dunedin (the 3 most prominent) and others are real. The latest value will bring In'gill's 30-year mean to about 1650.janewaystv wrote:Just looked at IVC sun data - a yearly total of 1881.8 hrs - a new record. Old record was 1853.0 in 2006.
