A fresh gusty cooling North Easterly across Dunedin yesterday so the 32C will have only been out at the Airport but some of those temps from Dunedin Airport look doubtful to me.I noticed watching TVNZ tonight Dunedins max temp was 32C. Contrast this with the forecast max of 22C, a 10C error there!!!
Met Service need to decide who they are forecasting temperatures for at Dunedin, the city or the rural environs!

Why is it you Aucklanders doubt the temps we get here in the south island
32 is not to hard to get down here when you get about 30 to 50kms from the cooling wind on the coast, think bone dry land, all day sun, and no wind and the temp doesnt take to long to get above 30 and if it not NW then most days can be calm inland down here.
Was fishing at lake sumner which is between arthers and lewis pass on the main divide on waitangi day and it was 36C with no wind yet chch had 21C and a fresh NE.

No, I'm just doubting readings from Dunedin Airport. I saw a 2C there last week when other Otago locations were 5 or 6C.Why is it you Aucklanders doubt the temps we get here in the south island
Yesterday the temp in Alexandra got to 31C but 32C at Dunedin airport
In a NorthEasterly flow I would expect Dunedin Airport to reach late twenties at the very best but winds may have been very light there.
32C at Dunedin Airport occurs in the warmest Nor Westers.

I see the temperature at Dunedin Airport was actually 31 yesterday and Dunedin City was 32.
Dunedin : 32
Dunedin Airport : 31
Invercargill : 24
Timaru Gardens : 22
Timaru Aerodrome : 24
Milford Sound : 25
Haast : 22
Gore : 25
I have just spent 2 weeks recently near Dunedin Airport and also doubt some of the temperature figures that are recorded there. I also have doubts about Timaru Aerodrome readings after living there for 5 years.
They are often between 2-5 degrees above the Timaru gardens readings.
Both Dunedin and Timaru have their maximums taken at the Airports which are both many kilometres from the respective cities therefore not an accurate representation I believe.

That will be very wrong as there was a fresh Nor Easter blowing, more like 22C around the harbour.Dunedin City was 32.

I'm sure I've covered this several times in various past posts, but are some "differential" figures:
Mean daily max: Timaru Aero 0.4C less than Timaru Gardens (summer)
Timaru Aero 0.2C less than Timaru Gardens (year average)
Ch'ch Aero 0.3C less than Ch'ch Gardens (summer)
Ch'ch Aero 0.3C less than Ch'hc Gardens (year average)
Dunedin Aero 1.7C more than Musselburgh (summer)
Dunedin Aero 1.1C more than Musselburgh (year round)
However for the latter:
Mean daily min: Musselburgh 2.3C higher than Dunedin Aero (summer)
Musselburgh 2.9C higher than Dunedin Aero (year round)
- showing that the mean daily temp. at Musselburgh is higher than the airport's all year round.

Interesting figures R Wood
The daily maximum readings this summer have Timaru Aerodrome well ahead of the Gardens site

The max temp in the day in question for Dunedin was 20.3C (Musselborough) not 32C. Would have been a tad warmer in other parts of
Dunedin more shletered from a cold harbour wind. And then they gave the 'now temp' as 29C! So they were wrong twice. I think this new weather set up by TVNZ is good but they need to give accurate info. Just got back from a few days down that way.
