Lightning and thunder in the foot hills.

I drove into rain at Lowburn and got very heavy as a got closer to home.

Surface flooding up my gravel road must of been 30-50mm here in the afternoon. Just light rain falling now.

Flew across the South Island late morn and could see there was going to be wide spread Thunderstorm activity up the island as there was a lot of strong Cumulus cloud developing and some Cb already at that time. Storms look to have stayed mainly inland over high ground where there was good heating, the coast line being cooler with some low cloud. Very good moisture down there today. looking forward to any photo's

Skies over the NI looked stable today, some Towering Cu around Auckland.
I see there are some showers west of Ak now

photo shows Cb cloud east of Otago late morn

All those strikes look to be around Christchurch / North of Christchurch.. Haven't had any rain fall here all day or even heard thunder!

Oh, I've already been looking at that one, but thnks anyway.

When you said 67 strikes, I thought you must've been looking at something else - but there were at least that a minute before over far to the NW...

A touch of rain now...haha.

AHA! I'm sure I just heard something incredibly faint there out to the east...

I don't think there's much to look at really. Just cloud and rain ehre...but it's still getting heavier.

Looking at the metvuw rain radar it looks like heavy thundery rain across alot of Canty back to the foot hills. Should keep the farmers down there happy for a few weeks. Some big rainfall totals already.
