yeah.....
I wonder if this is a trend , with some good seasons to come next couple of years for tornado's, or does it not work that way and you never know when it will be a good season or not?
we're pretty much stormed out after chasing for 9 days straight
I wondered if you were starting to get storm weary soon Foggy!
just remember....once you get back to godzone its months between lightning flashs instead of seconds!
I would be tempted to a second trip if I liked the set up but it would be a shortest stormchase trip in history though as I'm busy with work
just now .
yup, it would have to be a weekend for me (late Friday to early Monday maybe), as the wife works full time, kids at home, etc!
can you get the setup to occur in a weekend for me?
although isnt it that too much wind and the storms get ripped apart too much?
I have heard that said but I don't know how much merit there is in it. I see 850mb winds of 50knots as being ideal for destructive tornadoes as long as the low level helicity/instability is there. But its a topic to do some research reading on.
I may be heading over for this event. What do you all think? is it worth it?
Unfortunately that question can only be answered after the event. The set up looks good but as you will know, there's a lot that can go wrong on the day.
What does Roger Hills' blogg say about it?
thats exactly what happened to you guys this year...you had a bust day on what was supposed to be a good day (near Oklahoma)...
but its been a big season so far...so I would think that on the cards the next setup would deliver?
wife still wont let me go, LOL
After careful model analysis, we have to pull the plug and run an on call tour Wednesday and Thursday this week. All indications are for a major severe weather outbreak both days. Some of hte highest bulk numbers I have seen this season wil be in place for what should be a historic event. I am calling for a large number of tornadic supercells to raveage the plains states Weds and Thurs, possibly continuing into Friday. We will run an on call tour Weds and Thurs, with an option of Friday too. We need 4 firm YES'S to make it happen. Right now I have 3, with 2 more "possible". I would need folks to fly into Denver Tuesday evening, with your return flight LATE Friday (with an option to change it to Saturday LATE). Those interested I will give further details to.
Price would be $500 TOTAL, but if we chase Friday too, then another $250 would be required. We will take the first 6 FIRM YES'S on this major, major upcoming event! My partner Dr Gold, will also be joining us for his first chase since early May, 2007!!
Please let me know your intent as soon as possible.

Hi Jamie,
This DOES look worth the trip. However, as you know there are never any guarantees. If you take the models for their value, and also what about every forecaster I know are saying, it could be a VERY significant tornado outbreak. Weds and Thurs would be the chase days for sure. Thus the need to get here Tues evening and then fly back later on Friday. Dr Dave is coming out for the first time in over a year if that tells you anything LOL!!
Roger
Im now tossing up weather or not to go... Means i would have to fly out of Auckland tomorrow night.
I forgot i am feeding out mazie silage and grass silage to the neighbours cows all this week, so that is another reason I cant go!
dang, It sure sounds like its going to be a big event!
Going for a record short chase here haha. My chase last year consisted of only 4 nights and this one might only be 3 if the friday chase doesnt happen. No way am i sitting round in denver with nothing to do on the friday. All the hotels out by the aiport are in the middle of nowhere. I think ill just chage my flights. Just waiting on Roger to say if i have one of the last spots then ill book my flights.
Just realising I could have gone this year after all!
Mumble mumble, wish I had (Flying back over to Sydney again on Friday). Next trip after this one will be Sydney and Brisbane for River Fire, late August.
Foggy, I sure look forward to hearing about this trip when you get back. Be safe and have a great time.
Lets hope this coming setup is as good as it looks, but lets hope for minimal damage and most importantly no lives lost.
