Looks very thundery for the SI West Coast today and Invercargill as well.

Had 28mm this morning Now overcast with a 8 kt SW and 8 degrees. No sign of any thundery activity yet. Sheet of Ns aloft.

Looks like a westerly for us tomorrow with "gales" later in the evening and Friday then probably back to "NW" again as the next high races to the far north :-k

...And even more snow overnight. It's now down to ground-level on all the ranges. Purty!

We've had thunderstoms down here around 5am followed by heavy hail at 5.30 followed by a squally SW change at about 5.40 am . Now occasional hail showers and a 30 kt SW . Temp about 5 degrees.

What exactly do you mean? If it snows then by definition its down to ground level isnt it?

Sorry, I meant down on the flats, as opposed to just on the hills and mountains. My original post could well be the most nonsensical message ever posted here! :-)

Next week the snow could be down to ground -level on all the Ranges again with cold air running into a Low over NZ.

How lucky. None of that weather ventured further north.
Last WE I tipped that ChCh could get something interesting today judging by the models but incoming higher pressure at all levels seems to of buggered that up depite the roaring 40's being a bit active this week ;)
