"Neither, Niether, Nor" Weather
Some people get all the luck.
Thunderstorms probably leftovers from the the TS over Victoria resulting in the Bendigo tornado the other day.
All we had in ChCh today was just boring grey overcast sky with little or no rain.
What I call "Neither, Niether, Nor" Weather
Looks more of it to come ... however, I noticed the models tonight are seeming to get a bit organised than what they were yesterday

Nice Photo Graeme.
take a look at latest sat pic on the following URL
http://www.marine.csiro.au/~lband/weather/NZ12173.gif
tonights sat pic clearly shows two strong looking cb. One off the coast of
Westport and the other onto north Taranaki. That line of cb out to the west of Auckland/northland seems to mark a trough line. I hope a decent cb or two comes from it for Auckland.

whats interesting is how the surfce wind has been easterly, but the middle layer to upper layer cloud and wind is a lighter northerly
and so the rain systems are moving NNW to SSE line....and decaying and popping up in new places at the same time, so hard to tell where next
we got 14mm in an hour...and some lightning counts....
clear here now, and old cbs tops around (the eastelry has cut the bottom out of them)

Excellent pics Graeme.
There is a line of punchy cb's out to my E/NE with quite a nice show of lightning now that it is getting dark. Storms some distance off, over the Hauraki Gulf.
Tonights Rugby might just cope a heavy shower. Clouds are building in the west and its just like Eden Park to have rain during a game.

Media released this story this afternoon
Residents Mopping Up After Tornado
24/05/2003 04:56 PM
IRN
Emergency services are mopping up after a tornado ripped through an Auckland suburb today.
The mini-twister hit Browns Bay mid-afternoon, shattering panes of glass and lifting roofs.
The fire service says there is minimal damage to buildings, and nobody has been injured.
Surface flooding has caused causing problems around Auckland city after heavy rain and some thunder.
On two occasions todayIi thought tonados could develop from quite threatening looking wall clouds. I am not suprised by this report.

Not fair! (Agree John) You guys are getting the good stuff! And on the weekend, it's good you people can get out and do some reporting, no doubt I'd do the same if something came down here <G>.
Great pictures guys, are you people using digital cameras or was it a quick trip for one hour processeing at the developers.
Also another subject (totally off topic), I'm a huge Hummer fan, have been for about two years now and was woundering if any of you guys up in Auckland have seen any and if so would you know how much there are up their. There's one down here in Chch, probably the only in the South Island (heck I don't know but it's all I've ever seen). I'm planning to be able to get one within 4 years, just began my first business today! Any info would be greatly appreciated (on hummer's of course)
Cheers
