We're taking the house, chooks and all
Bit sick of the city life
Looking for somewhere around TaiTapu/Ladbrooks/Broadfield but not to close to where other people do weather readings
...also have a good place to watch weather events
...by the way, Aaron did you see the feature about Hummer conversions on the TV3 news this evening, to left hand drive?
I didn't realize that they were about 195 thousands dollars?
I can just imagine your Hummer converted to that silly Yanktank weather thing

I know the place is an ideal setting for the NZTS ... but there are too many people up there and my roots are here in Canterbury.
Christchurch is getting too big too. I wish that lots of them would move up north. About 100,000 the size of Dunedin would good enough

Hmmm...interesting bid history on that auction...first bid is for $25 from an established member of (apparently) good standing, then all of a sudden on the very same day a brand new member with no history has upped it to $50...nah, that's not even slightly suspicious...

Hi.
I'm not your ordinary technical guy like other jokers on this forum, ranging from Gary to Brian, Graham to Jeff etc. but..

I have ANOTHER Stevenson's screen to replace my old one. This one was coutersy of Parapapaumu Airport which I hope to erect a our new place of abode.
I prefer to do my weather recordings the old fashioned way, using thermometers in a Stevenson's Screen.

There's another way...?

I cannot imagine a reading being accurate that isn't made from within a properly designed and constructed Stevenson Screen. Good score, that airport box!

Good for you John! Where I used to live on Kennedy's Bush road you could look down on Ladbrooks and it looked like a good area. But be carefull as the next southerly in summertime could produce a tornado! Your going into twister territory! Great eh!

Yes I saw the hummer thing, and to "right" hand drive! not left It is very expensive, I wouldn't ever go that route. You can got to:

and get an H2 converted to RHD, it would be a bit cheaper than the place in New Plymouth (I think, last time I looked on their site it was AD$135k for a converted H2 to RHD)

You can get a 1995 or 6 hummer (H1) over here and provided you do the conversion yourself you can probably keep the cost under $90,000 NZ (still a whole heap of money!!). You can get kit's for the conversion from a place in Australia called:

The H1's look alot better in my opinion than the H2's do (it shouldn't even be called the H1, that only got introduced because of the second truck in the series, it really is the only one and true hummer!) One could go for a 1993 or 4 hummer and it would be cheaper still, mantainance ups though. You could even go for a humvee from:

The conversion brings the price down as there are less creature comforts to worry about so things get cheaper once again, and despite them being 1985 models they are apparently ok to run, very loud though unless sound proofing is added.

Regardless of whether they are yanktanks or not, I just saw one drive past infront of me and I new what I wanted. I never had an interest in cars before then. I just hate how I had to like something that costs so much but if things are planned well, it is something that is attainable later in life.

And I agree on Chch getting to big. In Halswell, what once were paddocks when I was a kid are now all developments with houses everywhere

there are plenty of places in the NI where the population density is not high.....thats a bit of a 1 eyed canterbury statement that the "whole" of the NI has lots of people!

It still hasnt reached the reserve yet, so i couldnt have got it for $26!! i will contact him once i got my money on my account, should go thru 2nite will ask him then, but even if i do get it, it will be a while before i set it up, got 2 get another computer first!!

Last one (wm-918) that sold on trademe, went for $400, but that was a while ago!!

If you're down this way anytime soon I have a couple of old systems suitable for weather server duty.

$400!!! The first WM-918 we ever bought from DSE cost us NZ$449 back in 1999 (I think)...after that we bought 5 more for (from memory) NZ$200. John Perry over at FreeWX.net has 500 units he selling off for around US$200, and I did see a site a month back selling them for US$178...we're seriously thinking of making John an offer on a bulk purchase (maybe 50 units) for an experiment we'd like to carry out down this way. Might get them cheaper that way.

Yeah if you did order some in i would be keen about geting a new 1! what do u think would be a resonable price to pay for the one on trademe? its 6 months old and its at $185 at the moment.
