Weather station for a coastal climate?
Hi, can anyone suggest a type of weather station that can survive a coastal climate and exposure to salt spray? If you can suggest a vendor that would be good too! Thanks

you get what you pay for
for a coastal environment, you would need a better quality station
I live not far from the coast and a Davis VP station has worked very well for me for many years now

Re: Weather station for a coastal climate?
Watch out for the well known weather station with the small turbine/propellor below the wind vane for windspeed measurement..
The toroidal magnet mounted on the blade shaft is almost guaranteed to break up and fall apart in moist salty air often taking only a year or so to do it!
The alternative anemometer with the spinning cups I believe is much better and available as an alternative for this weather station..
As with most equipment a little regular maintenance / cleaning goes a long way towards long life especially with outdoor gear

Thanks for the reply, I realise you get what you pay for, but I don't want to pay a lot then get something that doesn't survive. I have seen reviews for Weatherhawk & Rainwise units which seem to pretty rugged, but can't find any NZ vendors

Re: Weather station for a coastal climate?
I have both of those station types too (I have here at one time or another all the most popular weather stations)
not sure if they have improved the temp/hum sensor housing and rain gauge on the weather hawk from the original (which was not ideal)
The wireles reception from the rain wise I found was not all that great, and the battery needed replacing after a few years (the weather hawk is still working though (but the PC got a direct lightning strike....I have not replaced that))
