Front looks to be through AK now with winds backing to westerly.

Met Service prediction for heavy rain/gales didn't come off.

However 32mm today from persistent light to moderate rain.

Some ts activity moving into the West Coast this afternoon.

Fine (partly cloudy) today in AK, 17C. Looks like a weak front coming in this evening. Given current dewpoint of 14C, I'd expect showers to be quite heavy with a low risk of thunder.

40mm here from yesterdays front.

Looks like a wet one for the footy tonight then.
A return to fine mild conditions here today with northwest winds.
Cheers.

It was nice and sunny here earlier but now it looks as if we may be in for more snow. Sleet for sure anyway.

Rain arrived in Chch as I returned from the peninsula about 5.30PM (after a mild partly cloudy few days). Large drops, but I wouldn't exactly call it heavy.

Also a bit of rain in Auckland now after a dry day. A few heavy bursts but just 6mm so far.

Still mild with 8pm temperature 16C, dewpoint 15C.

There looks to be a little lightning in the Waikato now Steven W. Maybe you'll get some of it?

There was quite a bit of lightning on the alps today (the radio keeped crackling) but as nightfall hit it stopped so it looks like there'll be no lightning on the alps tonight.

Some new Cb's though look like they'll hit the West Coast in two hours or so.

Just had some good lightning and thunder to the south and west of Palmerston North.

Checked on Sky and there appears to be two bands of showers moving in a SE direction, out in the South Taranaki Bight, one coming ashore somewhere around Levin. The second band seems to be slightly north of the one coming ashore and I am hoping will have Palmy in its sights.

Will let you know what happens.

Just checked Sky again and noticed the image was for 21:30. Not sure now what's out in the Bight

Been quiet now for the last 50min. The Sky radar shows the shower band to almost be over us, but in a much weakened state. :(
