CWW meeting

Unread post by mikestormchaser »

Well just thought i would start a thread on perhaps us weather enthusiasts organizing a weather meeting for Canterbury weather watchers.
2009 has started off with a big bang thunderstorm wise and with alot of other chasers gathering pictures and videos, it would be a good opportunity to catch up on whats been happening and share the goss.
John Gaul mentioned meeting up at the isobar tavern in Hornby at some stage.
Last time we had it at the chateau on the park, anyone with any ideas? :D :B

I'm keen too and also Bob Crowder would be interested. I'm off to see him tomorrow to discuss recent weather events.
The reason why I suggested the Isobar in Hornby is because of it's meteorological theme and handy to here.

It would be nice to put faces on internet nicknames !
But what exactly do you do during such meeting apart from ordering some drinks and nibbles ...

Another meeting is a great idea indeed, since the last meeting we have had plenty of weather events to share photos and videos of.
I have new footage of the two storm days from this month plus the storm in October 2007.
Of course we have even more members now so anyone is welcome provided you can make it along.
Any other venue suggestions or even someone's house would be great if thats possible.
Cheers

I'd be willing to host it again so we'd have the place to ourselves :-w

I have a laptop that can be hooked up to the TV which might be easier for showing edited video footage or photos as well as directly from camera or tape/DVD.
But what exactly do you do during such meeting apart from ordering some drinks and nibbles ...
You sit and stare at a black TV screen  .... Mostly view storm footage or photos and discuss Canterbury weather.

I'm not licensed so it would be BYO for the drinks ;)

I can always bring my laptop for the pro-Mac people ...
More seriously, what about the day ? We need to be sure it will not be during a t-storm alert ... :yum:

that would probably the best thing to happen though Lacertae  because if there was a huge group of us and for any reason there was a thunderstorm about we could all go in a huge convoy!
Now that would be awesome :D

I say that Steven Graham hosting a meeting is an excellent idea.
We have had a meeting at Steven's place in the past and it was an excellent venue.
I'm all for it and Bob Crowder is also very keen to come along.
All we need now is a date and a time :D

That sounds like a good venue, now just a time and date and as steve suggested in a month or so would be good.
Perhaps somewhere between 20th-28th February, only because i am away before the 20th.
Its not that i am being an inconvenience, its just i would like to be there as well and as i am sure it has to work for others as it did last time with other comitments on etc.
Cheers

I think we've had the meetings on Wed or Thu nights in the past. Leaving it a month means it's less likely there will be a TS and evening storms are rare here anyway :(

So let's start with 25th or 26th Feb and see if everyone can make one of those nights ...

As I don't work, I should be OK on both dates ... :-(

From past experience it's easier to organise this sort of thing for midweek. So ....

The next CWW meeting will be on Wed 25th Feb from about 7:30pm here in Templeton.

Please send me a PM or email if you are going to attend so that I can organise enough seating, etc. I'll then send you my address info.

Cheers

I've had a request to change it to Thursday 26th. Is this still OK with everyone who was coming ?

Please let me know as soon as possible if you can only manage on the Wednesday.

Cheers
