Still looking very cold for friday for the south according to latest GFS but the intense trough will be too far off shore to give much weather with it. Forecast 850mb temp for Invercargill is still -4C on friday!
Should be a hot one over the north tomorrow given there will be more sunshine than we had today.
Yes, heaps of rain down there in Palmerston North. Looked like a slow moving narrow front on radar.

Could be a close run thing though. The low that causes it moves off very quickly, so subtle changes over the next few model runs may have a considerable effect on the severity of that cold blast.
The way the high ridges in behind though, I wonder if we may see some worryingly cold nights down there. The warm ground might hold off a frost, but if not....bad news for the viticulture in central Otago!
i think its looking good for good falls of rain
that cold SW change and the falling barometer over the tasmand with the developing trough will cool this airmass we have....meaning it has to rain out!
Gonna be very uncomfortable today, already 24.4C with 90% humidity and a fair bit of sunshine - perhaps 28C today if the sun stays out relatively frequently.
should be an interesting day for temperature over the North with the very high dewpoints combining with sunny spells. Already 26C at Greylynn, a very sultry day ahead.
well inside it is 27.4 with 37% humidity (aircon been running for over 24hours nonstop with house shutup) and that feels very cool compared to 23.9 with 82% humidity outside. Amazing how humidity makes 24 feel way hotter than 27.
26.7C here already before 11am, DP a sultry 22.4C. Quite sunny here this morning. Just back from being out in central Howick - just walking down the street you can feel sweat forming over your skin!!
I feel like I'm on a tropical island! Under mostly sunny conditions, we now have 29.3C with a 22.8C dewpoint. I see Grey Lynn is under cloudy conditions so perhaps it won't stay sunny long enough here to hit the big 30 mark.
Seems to be some upper level convergence? Quite a bit of cloud to the west, clearer to the east, we are just over the boundary (which seems to be stationary) here in sunny conditions (all that cloud is stopping Grey Lynn getting past 28C). Temperature hit 29.8C at 1:16pm now 29.4C. Never felt such heat before!
HEAVY RAIN WARNING
CANTERBURY In the 12 to 15 hours from about 4am Thursday expect 70 to 90mm of rain near the eastern foothills, but the could be around 120mm in the headwaters from the Rangitata River to the Waimakariri. Note: there will probably be 60 to 70mm on Banks Peninsula and 30 to 50mm on the plains.
Fantastic news...among a host of warnings all round NZ. MUCH NEEDED!
First rain warning I can recall for Canterbury since maybe October?
A storm is possibly developing where I am and It may go nuts as there are high Dps here 22°C to be exact.
Obviously some colder air aloft has come and made the air unstable.
Now the suns in full force making it explode...

Well tonights milking was as bad as about 40 degrees in sydney even though it was only 29 here. Mind you it was probably a bit warmer in the shed but its a very new open shed so not too much warmer. I just had copious amounts of sweat running off me. Nice to walk into a cool dry house
