Mammatus sunrise and double rainbow

Unread post by Skywatcher »

A colourful sunrise was soon followed by rain from the NW arch cloud this morning. The sun was still low enough to produce the double rainbow to the SW.

Cool pictures Steven G!

What time was this? I heard the radio presenters on Newstalk ZB this morning saying how good the sun rise was.

The sunrise pic was taken at about 7:55 and the rainbow was 8:25. I now have a matching sunset :)
That cloud edge just passed overhead and is moving east.

Good shot Steven. I was looking at this when I got home this afternoon. There was really good contrast between the blue and orange and its hard to capture on camera perhaps with the exception of Kodachrome 64 or even 25 if it's still available.

In fact the cycle ride home was easy :D as the breeze had turned NW just at the right time and I had a tail wind most of the way.

Riding toward the Port Hills, it was quite light for the time of evening with the low sun difracting off the clouds to the east tinged in differing shades of orange.

Another dry day predicted tomorrow before the colder southerly hits on Wednesday but as Tony said, it looks to be brief with fine frosty weather for Thursday according to Metservice.

We've got Mike Yardley and Ken Ellis down here Micheal for the mornings!

Great sunset!, I saw that aswell but couldn't get in a good spot to get it on camera!

Here's my attempt from home, maybe something similar to what you were talking about how the orange and the blue contrasts Jeff? I've dumbed the image down a bit though so it's smaller in size.

Also a pic of the Alps this morning but a bit shaky becasue of the car. They were gleaming quite nicely. 8)

Nice shots, you jokers.
I missed the a.m. ones because as I have this week off work, I was able to have a sleep in this morning. :)
Yes, Graham, I saw the evening clouds whilst driving to the airport to pick up Bob Crowder. The sun was annoying tho' driving westward. 8) 8)
The morning shower must of been only westward of the city as I recorded no precipitation here.
Nice shot of the Torlesse Range, Aaron.

These new digital cameras have really good colour saturation that's close to slide film in quality. I used to use a UV or Skylight 1B filter with film cameras to cut down the blue response of daylight film. They also protected the more expensive lens from scratches and fingerprints :)

Very good sunset Aaron showing the colour gradient. I think you even got Jupiter at the centre of the pic ;)
