Geoff Mackley on TV3 60 minutes last night

Did anyone else see the Geoff Mackley interview on TV3 at 7:30 last night?
I didn't know it was on but the promo after the Simpsons stopped me changing channels.

There were shots on him standing in hurricane force winds with a hand held anemometer when a gust blew him out of the camera shot, that was impressive, obviously no bones broken. Also commenting on a storm with some saftey ropes tied to the vehicle the crew were filming from to stop him getting blown away.

In Mexico shooting a storm when the balcony above him collapsed with the only clear spot, the one he was standing.

Getting close to volcanoes in Vanuatu, I think he was going to absail down in the crater but I missed the detail.

His new truck is aparently for filming in floods, not sure if he was over in BOP with it.

The interview was about 20 minutes, he's a guy doing what he really enjoys and getting paid quite well for it. Good on him

Yes, I saw it. Interesting that he makes a good living out of pursuing severe environmental phenomena from tornadoes to volcanoes, around the globe. Makes his money off the royalties from filming. That truck he has in Auckland cost him $200,000, which he said was for filming floods.
BOP would have been a good work out for it.

That interviewer kept going "Your doing what other people would call mad!", etc etc. I was thinking, well....this emoticon thing explains it

Well ok, to us people it seems great and excting, maybe it would seem mad to other people. Pitty I don't have sky, we've got Telstra at work but thats for the internet connection. It would cost a bit more for the TV service, I guess that's ok though as I shouldn't be watching TV when working! Maybe he'll put out a DVD series?

Yeah Steve, those Bay of Plent floods would've been great for a truck like that, have we had floods like that in Chch? I'll need to crank out the hummer when it comes! Provided I have the hummer of course.

The day Aaron gets his Hummer is the day we get floods!!

No Aaron not alot, havent really looked.
Good hot day with WNW and 18 degrees!! Its a pity im indoors all day on such a good day!!!

No not much here either, a bit of Cu though coming in from a westerly type direction. Yes, it is a pretty warm day!

The hummer will come!

Actually, those Cu bases are looking pretty dam good right now! In a way I hope it doesn't go anywhere becasue I didn't bring my camera but in another way if something happens, I'm not complaining. Chances are nothing will happen though, that's if dewpoints etc are anything to go by.

Unfortunately, I didn't see the programme as I don't watch TV3 apart from the news as ALL, sorry I mean, most of their programmes are rubbish.

If anyone recorded the Geoff Mackley segment, I would like to see a copy of it

You must watch C4 then or listen to More FM(its owned by them too)

Winter could arrive Monday in the south with low level snow possible.

That low crossing central NZ Thursday will bring snow to the inland hills. I don't expect snow on Bank Peninusla as I think the onshore winds will keep the freezing level relatively high near the coast.

Aaron, people occasionally e-mail me about where I choose to live and work, saying, "Oh, it looks quite nice, but who'd live there?!"

Many people think the idea of moving more than 100m beyond a shopping mall or restaurant zone to be literally stupid.

If I had the choice Gary I'd be out of the city and somewhere in the country. Don't get me wrong, I like going to the movies and the city is cool. But utimately I want the country. I like fishing and tramping, I've read quite a bit on hunting and would like to try my hand at red deer.

And dear I say it, I'm a moose believer! (excuse the pun

) I've read up on them quite a bit and know the guy Ken Tustin who goes down there looking for them. Exciting stuff at times! Maybe I'll do my own mini expedition in 3 or so years?
