Heavy frosts in and on the outskirts of Chch this morning, as well as in the shady parts of the peninsula. Heavy frosts have been a feature of this month in many parts of the South Island - I wonder if they result in a colder than normal July, like July last year. We'll soon see when NIWA put out their monthly summary.

Looking at my comparison to last July, it's very similar at my loation.

Mean temp
July 2004 5.3C
July 2003 5.2C

Mean Minimum is a bit lower 0.3C against 0.9 for July 2003

Wind runs are very close
July 2004 3513 km
July 2003 3523 km

Rain. Been a bit drier this July
52.4mm against 79.8 last July.

Interesting to see how the rest of the country faired.

Not even close! I broke the Stevenson screen a few days back, but even so our overnight low was only -5.9° at 08:50!
