Just came across this wealth of statistics of NZ places, (most never heard of) The pretty much just have monthly rainfall totals and monthly mean temps... Dunno how it got to Canada!

There are a lot of locations there. I had a look at some on the localities in the King Country I'm familiar with. Some just had rainfall data claiming to be 30 year averages. I'm not sure who would have collected this data, perhaps farmers.
Comparing data to places that are 20 or so km apart, the rainfall totals are different indicating that data may have come from different sources.

I tried to look up the locations (lat & long) in http://www.wherearewe.co.nz/ but the map server seems to be down.

Interesting site, pity the data sources can't be verified.
